yeah but do you need to fork out so much just to get that kind of quality, especially since most people here cant even tell the difference.

If you can afford to buy "Org" lens then y go to 3rd party ? Unless you can afford lor:bsmilie: " Just kidding" That y "Org" always are the "Best" just my 2 cent. No heart feeling dude:)

Because for most people here, they're not even going to be making money out of their lenses; a lens that can provide decent, similar quality at 1/3 of the price will be a wiser and more thrifty choice. Money don't come easy.

hey thanks all for the great advice. whoah i didnt realise it will create such a buzz. anyway i see both sides of the coin. i too would definitely love to buy a nikkor original. however the funds are a problem. and my reflection is that, as far as i looked right, there isnt a 2.8 lense that goes at that price. im just a hobbyist not a pro. so at 600 the lense looks decent. hopefully i intend to sell off the kit lense and purchase another one maybe 70-200 or something like that. and slowly build form there.

about the knocking your lense. i guess maybe one should then take better care of your camera and be careful la. alot of things also if you knock it around it will spoil too.

and about this tread being in the wrong place, well i am a nikon user and my question was put here because i am comparing it to nikon lenses. and i want nikon users to comment on it.

cheers guys thanks alot

well, i need to ask, are you getting the f/2.8 for the bokeh? or you're getting it for low light? as for as i'm concerned, the bokeh for all wide zoom lenses are not that good. if you don't need it the low light, you might wanna consider a 18-35mm f/3.5-4.5. you'll lose about one stop of light but you have one of the shaperst lens nikon made.

sometimes, knocks here and there cannot be prevented. if you don't believe me, buy the tamron 17-50mm, take one shot, then after 6 months, take another shot and compare the sharpness, then you'll get what i mean. that's why some are selling their lenses off for upgrades.

i'm not against all third party lenses, but there are some lenses just not worth getting. i've walked down that road before because i refuse to listen and i sincerely hope nobody has to go through the same mistake again.

stupidbloke,

if you can afford to wait or afford the lens, i'd strongly suggest that you wait for a nikkor. a 3rd party lens will always be a 3rd party lens. i recently spoke to a friend who was using the tamron and now he's desperately trying to sell it off because the sharpness deteriorates as time goes by because the build of the lens is not made to take any form of abuse to it. which means that you cannot accidentally knock your lens to anything at all. if you're in the MRT and the lens is swinging around your shoulder, knocking some people and there and the lens will not give you any constant result anymore.

the reason why many prefer nikons including myself is not mainly because of the sharpness (though some is) but the reliabilty of a lens. that being said, tamrons lenses are not reliable because i owned one. after shooting a few events, i realised that not only the the lens is really soft at certain focusing range anymore, but also out of focus images.

when i got a nikkor, i never have any problems with anything. after that i never looked back.

this test will give you the results of the both lenses.

are you serious that the tamron's sharpness is comparable to THE AF-S Nikkor 17-35 f/2.8 IF-ED? are you kidding me, i've seen the 17-35 been put to a test with some primes because there's nothing comes close to it in terms for zoom lens. the 17-35mm is the best zoom lens ever made, period.

Hey, look at positive side. If you are in MRT, and you Tamron lens knock at somebody's head. At lease it won't kill the poor guy. if it is a Nikkor 17-55, ...

All about quality vs cost. If 3 times price doesn't bother you, go for the 17-55 and you will never look back at Tamron. If looking for the best value of money, Tamron is a good choice. Even though, Tamron do make some junk lens. But this one happen to be one of the best, if not the best.

I wouldnt carry a Nikkor 17-55 out in the open on the MRT. It'll

1) Invite suspicion by authorities
2) Invite unnecessary attention from fellow passengers
3) Invite bad attention from possible thieves.

Don't use the lens hood.. It looks less intimidating without the hood on.
