How do you pronounce Hyundai?

judeseah and oevind are on track (but latter missing the 'y' sound.. that's 'y' as in yum, not as in by). meaning is literally 'modern' and only two syllables.

hyun-dae or hyeon-dae depending on how to 'romanise' that vowel

so do you pronouce phonetically as "he-yarn-day" or "hi-yarn-day"?

When I was a small kid, I pronounced it as 'hyun-die'.
As I grew older, I pronounce it as 'hyun-day'.

But both forms of pronounciation are accepted and recognised. I guess it's your call. I'd say the latter would sound more upper-class. Not that I'd associate the brand with elegance for that matter...

just to note, some sounds just simply don't exist in certain places. just ask any newcomer caucasian to pronounce geylang or aljunied, or bugis junction, and watch them trip up. similarly, the japanese language doesn't have particular sounds for some english alphabets, and when there are japanese songs with english words, you can hear how they mangle up the sounds... YELCH!
