How do I shoot this shot?

Hello all,

I'm wondering how I can go about shooting this certain shot- an 90 degrees overhead shot of a person lying on his bed- without casting any shadow from my camera being above his head? Would I need a certain lighting setup?

Hope you guys will be able to help, thanks!

Your lights not being behind you or anything above you. You're doing a straight down shot of the person lying down right?

yupp, so would that mean I can't have any of the room lights on + light from windows so I can avoid the shadow?

Either you mount the camera on ceiling, or set up additional lights.

Or make yourself transparent also help.

First rule of lighting.

Try not to have a light that is directly on top or behind the camera.

hmmm okay, thanks. I'm not sure how to set up additional lights that could get rid of the shadow T.T esp' when the bed's next to the wall. Any tips for that? If I could make myself and my camera transparent, I would!

Play with the lighting during on set. We can't tell you much because we do not know how the room looks like

:/ alright thanks! Just trying to feel out an idea of how it should be like cause' I only have a limited amt of time with my equipment, it's a student film haha.

Saw this music video (Matt and Kim - It's Alright) that featured overhead shots of a couple on a bed?

(Note, may be NSFW for some)

Here's the BTS video, you can see how they shot & lit.

If the ceiling light is a problem then the obvious solution is to just turn it off?
If you have access to the space and equipment, experiment away.

Various ways to cheat. Eg., Stand the mattress/bed up against a wall and do it standing up? If you pay attention to the small details (e.g, nothing that looks too out of place according to gravity), or if it's a quick shot, can probably get away with it. Another way (courtesy of a Philip Bloom BTS post I saw recently) if you only need a tight shot:
