How about a travel forum?

+1 to the setting up of a travel tips.

There's a whole range of KM from good shooting locations to cheap local bargains.... definitely very useful for members here.

Tho I dun tink a whole sub-forum dedicated to it is a good thing now. Mabbe a child forum to start the ball rolling to the gathering and outings forum for the moment and branch out from there if necessary.

 I vote for this too.

I think we dont need to have so many sub forum. Just a travel forum with 1 thread for each country would be good enough.

Yes, a sticky to divert commerical stuff, then threads on each destination.
A single forum may be all thats needed.

Cheers

I think a single forum is all that is needed. Too many sub forums give people the idea that this is a travel forum like tripadvisor, which we want to avoid.

Just to bring this up, 4 more queries on travel in the kopitiam section, so this suggestion does matter.
Cheers

Awesome idea! Travelling is my passion. I would love to push this idea.

We can have travel logs, experiences and such.

Well done... great suggestion.

It could mean more work for mods or admin, but it gives better depth to photo forum.

Commercialism would be tricky as it can it can invite spamming, underhand tactics from competing travel firms against one another and steering an interest driven community to become a lucrative spot.

I am sure all the bad can be contained, leaving the good for members to enjoy and participate in.

Friends I just want to clarify, I am not working in the travel line. Why I keep mentioning the commercial aspect is in my own experience as a mod, commercial people will come in, so setting aside a specific area helps direct the posts there, which makes it easier for mods.

Also people will also see that that section is purely commercial and not get misled. Maybe in the long run it will attract paid members and help the forum too.

Cheers

yea i agree.... i think the travel section will be very nice! i support this!

I hope to have a travel section as well!

Good idea! Would love to see such a section for travels :)

I disagree with the idea of a commercial section. Just a travel subforum for members to share/ask questions will do. Whats the need of having tour agencies coming in to advertise their latest tours? There are better places to do that.

Great suggestion as I am sure a travel forum would cater to not only seasoned travellers, but would also be immensely useful to CSers intending to travel and shoot.

I know that I would find such a forum section useful.

Thanks for taking the time and initiative Peter!

No, keep the commercial stuff out for reasons already mentioned, but members with say a post count of above 1K should be allowed to share their experiences with different agencies/packages etc and where to get the best deals not only for tickets, but food and accommodations as well. THAT, would also be very useful.

To clarify, I'm not against people sharing experiences of hotels/agencies, food, etc. That is part of what a travel subforum should be :)

But, please, no commerical ads or the like.

Just looking ahead, we might be able to organise some group photo trips to some destinations like OZ, NZ or China etc.

Hello Everyone!

Apologies, the Travel Photography sub forum was already created a couple of days back but was held back but other stuff so I never got round to finish writing the introductory thread.

With this, we are also using a relatively new forum feature - thread prefixes. This will allow members to tell at a glance (or perhaps search/filter) which region a thread is for.

Well, its now open and we will be moving related threads in bit by bit but these older threads will not have the prefixes.

Enjoy!!

Thanks for listening

Cheers!
