Hi I am looking to buy a D5 and was wondering as i'm of to HK next week are there any good places to buy cameras there, as i have been told the prices are better.

got time, walk around kl mongkok area, sai yeung choy gai, look for those buildings you take life up to 7 or 8 floor, those retail stores has the best price. I never buy camera products in Singapore, my camera was SGD100+ cheaper in HK and videocam almost SGD200 cheaper than AP.

My experience at Tin cheung was good. It is located at Tsim Sha Tsui. Their address is Tin Cheung Camera Company Shop 5 Friends' House, 6B Carnarvon Road, TST, Kowloon,Hong Kong. 2mins walk from the MTR station. The price quoted was fair & much better than the other tourist type shops. Shop operating hours are Sun: 12:00pm -6:00 pm, Mon-Sat: 11:00am-8:00pm. You can check their price on the website. The store price is about 5% - 8% less. (Cash price) If you are using credit card, be prepared to pay 2% more.

The shops at Mongkok area are Wing Shing & Man Shing. 3 stores are near the Ladies market. More variety, more people (guess it is at a prime location). But the price quoted was higher than Tin Cheung & they refused to lower their prices.

If you want something less of a hassle, just go to Tin Cheung.
Hope this helps...

In my opinion, you cannot buy from shops on the ground floor, the higher you go the cheaper you get. Nathan Road shops are genarally tourist shops. Cameron St that area never really experience as I dont buy there. If you find some shops on 12 floor etc, definitely cheaper. But you must know your products. Another area a lot of this stuff is HK isl side, Central, up the esculator, about 2 street up from Central Market. Full of camera stuff shops. Pricewise not too sure.

Guys many fanx 4 your comments, sure i'm gonna have a lotta fun walking the streets next week...

from the website, looks like very good value at tin cheung camera!

yup, I must agree with you. Having said that, the prices quoted when you are at the shop is lower than the price on the website. Too bad I didn't know where to go look for those 5th to 10th floor shops to check the prices.

I was quite contented at Tin Cheung.

Was just wondeirng how the staff is. Cause i intend to go over next week! and i was wondering if anyone knows whether can try multiple copies? Or are the ppl at the shop unfriendly like a certain shop we have in SG? haha

In general, the prices are cheaper if you go down to the shop. However, do note that Tin Cheung's prices does not include int'l warranty. For that, add another 10% (generalise), if at all.

Also, I'm speaking from Nikon's perspective. Not too sure about other brands. On top of that, int'l warranties usually apply to lens only; not bodies.

how is that true? I am looking at the nikon 70-200VR which is around $11445 HKD which is like $2289. From the earlier post, they say the store CASH price is like 8% lower, and with int'l warranty is 10% higher. So it is around the same with the online price?

Is Tin Cheung trustworthy, ie their int'l warranty no problems, lens working fine, etc? There are rumors on CS regarding defective grey 70-200VR in HK.

i did get to try several pieces of lens but onli after i hv agreed to buy one. the staff usually allow trying when u are seriously buying it.

Usually retailers are very limited when posting prices online, like AP and CP in Singpaore, they dont even post, because people are watching. Buy when you go down, its all talk, and price can really drop. I sell online too, and I am very much tied in the hands on the price. I think you guys can always call them and ask, and they can tell you about the warranty stuff also.

folks be mindful that camera bodies do not carry int'l warranty hor..
Lens yes though...

Most HK shop, intl warranty only valid for PRC, meaning HK, Macau, mainland. I got some product from man shing/wing shing which has intl warranty, they usually dont carry gray.

At tin cheung they have both, however they dont carry many products, I wanted to get a few other stuff, but they didnt have the stock.

Better off getting the gray.
