hi everyone,

i have a friend doing a european trip and will be stopping though HK on his way and is after info on camera places in HK.
the type of gear he is looking at is DSLR and nikkon glass (ie AF-S 70-200 VR)

i was wondering if anyone can point me to some online shops /
website that will give him an idea of prices there so he has an idea of what prices should be rather than tourist prices.

any names of shops he can visit would be of help as well.

if he was going via SG i could of helped him out but unfortunatly
his flights are via HK.

many thanks in advance and greetings from chilly aussie land :-)

Try the search function... there's a pretty comphensive guide on HK.

BTW, do note that DSLR body's warranty is domestic only. SLR/Lens/Accesories has international warranty.

and i heard (only hearsay) that HK prices for nikon not better. only canon.

Not true. Try this site www.hksupplies.com. But the site may not show the latest items. Can email them. The latest items like the VR 70-200 will be cheaper in HK than here. Nikon Singapore has a much higher markup for new items.

-Wing-Shing (in Mong Kok)
66 Sai Yeung Choi ST., Mongkok, Kowloon
Tel: 2396 6881, 2369 6961
Business Time: 10am - 8pm
Take the MTR to Mong Kok Station and exit via EXIT D-3. From there it is easy to get to both MAN-SHING and WING SHING.

a photographer with a newspaper in HK told my friend last wk that Nikon D100 is selling at abt HKD11000

juz bought a Tamron 19-35mm lens + filter in May for HKD1480
(sorry u have to do your own calculation)

maybe this will help you gauge the prices over there..
:D

Check out the shops at Argyle street near Mongkok. Prices there are quite competitive. Avoid Tsimshatsui area, equivalent to Sim Lim Towers, Lucky Plaza style of racketeering. Favourite trick is the old switcheroo, will quote you an unbelievable low price, after taking your money offer you something else, they already have your money so got you by the balls.
