Bumortic: Hey, thanks I shall try that with my CFN as I normally use flash/filters :)

Lurgee: Hey shifu, I've added you to my lomo home! :)

Btw there is a new lomo Semna 8m out and with its manual functions n 35mm use, its so luring. What do you guys reckon?

Quoted from lomography.com:

The word "Smena" (Cmeha) is roughly translated into "Young Generation" in English. The 8M model is the late 70's to early 80's incarnation of the Smena lineage.
Manufactured by the legendary LOMO production house of St. Petersburg (home of our dear Lomo LC-A), it stays true to its roots - a quirky little hombre that begs you to have fun, be spontaneous, and shoot the hell out of everything around you.

my friend and i used to have a few Smenas (LOMO came up with many generations) and they are all very cool (bakelite bodies i think). but my personal fav is still the Smena 8m.. it just looks so cool. but of course, workmanship is questionable, as always.

for good deals, i still recommend online sites like ebay.com , NOT lomo.com

Thanks! There are indeed better deals on ebay and silly me... who did not think of that beforehand.

I do not understand what do you mean by workmanship?

i won't be surprised if lomo.com starts selling other soviet era cameras like the Feds, Kievs and Zorkis. oh wait..i think they have the FED 5, don't they?

my favorite FED is the FED 2 http://forums.clubsnap.org/showpost.php?p=931343&postcount=13

and the kiev 19 http://forums.clubsnap.org/showthread.php?t=109647

the 8m is not as sturdy as the earlier smenas .. it feels 'leaky' and filmsy. had trouble with the cocking mechanism before, and my friend had her film stuck inside (unable to wind back). of course, don't expect reliable, precise shutter speeds and focusing is 'guess-timate'. it's not a SLR, it's not a RF. it's something like the holga, you just look tru the hole which approximates the view. also, the aluminium plate at the front is pasted on...sometimes have to glue it back urself haha

but really, i think there is a special kind of enjoyment derived from using manual cameras like this. operating the camera is part of the experience itself.

really no use?

Well, from what I understand from the reply on email when I asked if I could loan the camera because I pre-register... the response was it's a first-come, first-serve basis because of the overwhelming response to the event. :-(

Ok... I'm dead tired. :-P

Alamak... my negs got exposed. So only got few shots. :-(
