HK stuffs cheaper?

I kindof like shopping in HK. The camera shops are mostly situated around MongKok. It's kindof like sls for camera. Walk around and ask for the best price as competition are fierce around that area.

Broadway/Citicall, which are kindof similar to Courts/Harvey Norman, can offer competitive prices compared to Man Shing and Wing Shing even without gimmicks. The gimmicks are charging additional amount using credit card. On top of that, Man Shing credit card forex seems to be higher than broadway/citicall. I'm not sure why though.

In HK, where should we go for lenses shopping? Any one familar with HK shopping centres? Thanks
See http://www.ygdragon.net/shops.htm for a list. I checked out most of the shops on this list when I was there very recently. Nikon stuff is around 20% cheaper for lenses, but not the DX range, which are around the same price as here or 5% cheaper (GST difference).

Some price comparisons:
Nikon SB-400 Speedlight HKD880 (~SGD179, actual CC exch rate) from Wing Shing, Int'l Warranty - Local about SGD210
Nikon EN-EL3e Li-ion batteries HKD280 (~SGD57) from Wing Shing - Local about SGD80+
Sekonic L-358 Lightmeter HKD1,550 (~SGD310) from Tin Cheung, no warranty (Grey?), 2% for credit card transaction - Local about SGD4xx

Would have gotten more stuff, but what I wanted wasn't in stock. ;)

if i ask my friend there to buy, will he get cheated?
because he knows nothing abt photography, equipment,...

I think as long as you have an idea of the 'base' price range, then u shouldn't get ripped off. However, it will be hard for him/her to test the lens extensively before purchase...

Hi guys

I also invested in a Canon 400D while in HK. For HKD $6,105 (~ SGD $1,205), I managed to get:
- Canon EOS 400D
- 18-55mm kit lens
- 2GB CF card
- standard tripod
- camera bag
- screen protector
- cleaning kit (incl air pump, lens brush, lcd cleaner)
- other kit (mini tripod, carry kit)

Although it may be a bit unfair to compare, because I had 7.5% discount through a friend's friend who works at Fortress.

hmm...i was tinkin of askin my sis to get a 400D when she's in HK nx wk too..
without ur 7.5% discount... it wld be close to S$1300...
im not quite updated with the prices in sgp...but i know courts/HN sellin @S$1669...
not sure abt SLS....

$300 bucks cheaper, but without the int'l warranty... wat do u guys think?
worth it?

Last time I checked at Wing Shing, it was about S$1,100 for body only. As for warranty, I heard you can convert it to a 6 mth int'l warranty from Canon.

If you are just buying the EOS 400D body, then get it in Singapore. Price has come down quite attractively. It goes for less than $1,400 now. Forget about buying from Courts unless you want to pay by instalments, etc else get it from the usual shops.

No point buying from overseas due to the warranty issue. You are getting 6 months warranty istead of 12 months local warranty + 3 months extended warranty when you registered your warranty online. Therefore, you are getting 15 months of warranty if you buy it in Singapore.
