High-end Sony DSLR?

Just for records, sony made their first digicam DSC F1 in 1996, way before the digicam "buiz" was good. that's how they corner such a big market in digicam.

I'm not sure if Sony's share of the digicam market is all that big... I think it seriously lags behind Canon, Nikon and Panasonic...

I'm afraid you are wrong in this. Sony is ahead of Nikon and panasonic in the US market and garnered 20% of the world's digicam market. Canon managed to edge Sony in US but the top seller in US is Kodak.

If 20% of world market is still seriously lagging behind Canon, Nikon and Panasonic, then the 3 of them must have like 80/3=26.67% market each. But Kodak is such a strong player in US and the US market is the biggest in the world, I won't know how to do the math without going over 100%.

Sony may not be as popular as the other 3 brands in Singapore as you can see in this forum but do not underestimate it's popularity worldwide. The fact that professional reviewers in dpreview are highly recommending several Sony digicams shows that Sony does do it right. But they may not be doing it right to your liking.
