could the lack of sharpness be due to the scanner and compression? seems that the scanner is not able to capture full spectrum in the red channel too.....

Nah, it was handheld. If I'm not wrong there was handshake. Anyone able to handhold a 105mm lens without IS and at 1/15 shutter speed, and still get razor sharp pictures, please speak up. *G*

I believed I tweaked the colours and contrast too much and will probably post another version later.
