Just an example to offer a different point of view.

You may think that it is hard to shoot with a prime, but people have been doing fine with the prime lenses in their Iphones and other camera phones

The iphone4 camera is about 30mm on fullframe, so about 20mm on APS-c equivalent. You can use it as a rough gauge as to whether a prime lens can suit your casual shooting needs.

Fix lenses are my favorite. It is just too hard to find a good 2nd hand copy. And brand new is out of my budget range... I really really love 35ltd for the build and the rounded blades for its awesome bokeh...
