Personally, I started DSLR photography using a 2nd hand KM5D and the cheap kit lenses (shot everything at f8 and smaller). Back then, when I was still learning and my expectations weren't so high, I shot any and everything. It was so much more enjoyable then. Now, photography is a more technical and mentally stressful because of my higher expectations (and also the expectations of others that I shoot for).

Reminds me again of my childhood days when I enjoyed playing with Lego. The best part was building a Castle, a motor-driven car with a multi-shift gearbox, or a fork-lift. But when I finished building it, the fun was over :( So smashed them up and started building again.

So my advice is just enjoy it. Simple candids, landscapes, abstracts (eg. water droplets, holes in leaves, etc.), nature (ants, flowers, etc), architecture (HDB blocks, the Esplanade, etc.) can be so much fun because the learning process is about discovering color, shape, composition, etc. Just shoot whatever comes your way (but be careful not to irritate your loved-ones / friends by spending too much time shooting and not enough for them).

I sometimes browse through my archive of photos taken during the learning days. Wonder if I can go back to those days...

So, just shoot and enjoy while you can :)

Wah, so emo ;p

the pictures will show/tell whether if you are enjoying it or not.

worry less on the technical side of it.

Just gotten my A300 yesterday. Wanted to wait for the speculated A330 but was worried of a price hike of the current models, so I quickly went to get the A300. I'm a complete noob with dslr, seniors, please guide me along :)

If you address us as korkor and jiejie means you should be quite young means got good eyesight. Don't neglect the viewfinder of your camera. Liveview has its uses, but so does the viewfinder.

Be careful with spending too much money on this hobby. Buy what you need and plan properly. Don't spend money on lenses that overlap too much. Don't buy on the mentality of "This lens is good to have."

I'm sure many korkor and jiejie here will tell you of lenses left in cold storage in their dry cabinets.

Join us for some shooting as well.
