Hi guys!

New this to forum and photography/videography in general :) (Well duh)

Besides being influenced by most of my camera wielding friends, I have also been inspired by many content creators on YouTube like MakeMeBad35, iDubbz, Casey Neistat, Filthy Frank....prolly Smosh as well lol. Ive been recently coming up with content on my own using very limited equipment, my main weapon being my Sony Xperia XA Ultra and a GoPro Hero 4 Session as a ''sidearm'' I have been trained previously in ITE to edit videos in Adobe Premiere in 2005(quite an old version where HD did wasn't even a thing yet) but I'm too poor to afford high end software like that so I edit on either Windows Movie Maker (eww) or GoPro Studio.

So right now, I'm saving up for at least a decent DSLR/mirrorless and a shotgun mic. My friend recommended me to either get the Canon EOS 650D or a Sony NEX 6. For a shotgun, it's definetly Rodes as I have been reading up, but I wonder what setup you guys can come up with if say I have a budget of under....$500?

I sorta follow Neistat's ethos of ''gear doesnt matter'' but somehow quality's gotta improve perpetually haha.

Hope to keep in touch with y'all! Thanks and cheers :)

Hi there!

Im a amateur filmmaker and i make films on youtube HAHAH

I was using canon for most of my films until i recently switched to sony

Just take note that sony nex 6 doesnt have a mic jack input so getting a mic for it wont be easy :( but nex 7 does have mic jack tho so should be good with a rode mic

I think the best setup below 500 would be a used 600d a good kit and a prime like a 50 f1.8 anddd a rode videomicro

Cheers! All the best for ur filmss :D
