Went snorkling at 2 places of Tioman with sch last year ard September..

Marine park water not that good. Visibility approx 1m+ at the deep side. Closer the beach of Marine park, visibility increases slowly

Coral island water okok.. can see what's beneath you reasonably well.

thanks bro! i saw pics of tioman from someone, and was shock to see the water like spore :dunno: ...
so tioman has many island? the places u talking about are resorts or?
thanks again, appreciate the help

Dayang/Aur and Redang. Nearby, clear water, reasonably affordable.

depending on your budget, don't really have to go tioman, there are the sibu islands which are nearer and do have very good beaches,

tioman has got good waters actually, the waters nearer to tioman mainland is getting murky thanks to over commercialization, more human you got at a place the more discharge you get in the waters, but islands off tioman do offer crystal clear water, you can tie down with your operator to bring you out for snookling.. or you can tag with the divers to the dive sites.

dayang is more for divers, nothing but the basic, aur has got slightly more facilities, but mostly catering for divers only.

but dayang has got a better beach.. as compared to tioman.
snookle early around 9-10am.. just before the tide pulls out.. the water will be good :)

thanks brothers, reali appreciate the help given!
hmm im so interested in underwater photog, but no licence yet :(
aniwae, pulau aur is good eh? comparing with tioman?
actualli was looking at how to get there , but went to ask a ferry service agency and got quoted 180 return ferry tick to tioman? felt abit like carrot ...

hey hey...you sound somewhat like me leh. hahahaha no licence also but want to take u/w photos. haha

And for tioman hor, went there recently and the visibility is actually quite good! The guide there told me that the visibility is not constant(not getting worse). He say you just need to know when to go for best visibility..which is........I WASNT PAYING ATTENTION lol but i do remember him saying that dolphins will be appearing during may and another month....which i forgot...hahahahaha sorry.

Errr anyway, i could see the seabed when i went snorkeling, around 4-5 meters deep? Saw a sea-turtle too! And going there was cheap too! 200-400 each depending on how many people going. So good luck!

P.S Don't take scuba diving lessons there hehe The guide was kind enough to tell us the price is too high there.

P.S.S No one gave me any camera recommendations on my thread! >.< hehe

club med bintan...500 twin sharing...cover buffet meals, and entertainment....beer and wine on the house...operators are veri friendly...really customer service...play games wif u and all...snorkel and dive under instruction...for free...dun tink they will mind u divin wif a cam...coz instructors are all club med instructors...they own the beach anyway

tioman has those too, except for the beer and wine..hmm..i don't think anyone wants to go diving with a hung over or worse...drunk. lol the instructer at tioman took us out on free non-package trips snorkeling but....my group was mostly females....so....i got a little suspicious about those free trips... hahahahaha

witness, the 500 is for 2 person or the price of 1 room?

Haha.. i differs. Been snoorkling around before i did diving, tioman, redang, perhentian, rawa, besar.

Ok. Strictly for snoorkling, if u can tolerate 8 hours bus ride and a tiny more fraction of funds, avoid islands around tioman(i term it islands in the south), go straight up to perhentian or redang(islands in the north).

And if u can go to redang, why not try pulau lang tengah? just beside redang and super non-polluted.
Been there 3 times. My first choice island. For almost every snoorkling around the big rock in front of Blue coral resort can see sharks (small and white tip of course, dun expect those big white in jaws movies), turtles(big one and tame, especially when u do night snoorkling with the dive master, 20RM only. just talk with the malay dive masters), and a lot more nice stuffs. Visibility is damn good ard may-june. And if u r lucky enuf, can see manta ray swim near shore.

There are few resorts on the island, old one like square points and Blue coral resort. can try. always stick with blue coral resort. ard 3 star hotel, and nice customer service. expect to spend ard 350RM for whole trip of 3d2n inclusive of bus fares and food and lodgin, and boat trip. Try the superior room and above package, worth the extra money upgrade from std room.

i choose half board, so cheaper when u order foods together with fren for dinner. :D

there is this two new resorts, but i don't book with one of them. I discourage people from doing that too, coz i saw their staffs hunting sharks, baby sharks. And becoz of them, the population of sharks as compared from my 2nd and 3rd trips showed a huge decline. It is Redang Lang Resort managed by chinese.

If u wan to dive, can try to stay in blue coral resort and go for dive with square point, think must negotiate.
although diving price for redang lang resort is cheaper, i don't encourage any dealing with them, as i am disgusted by the shark hunting act.

Pinganchorage is a good travel agency in malaysia. Try to contact them via email. And then after payment, u just need to arrange ur bus trip to kuala terengganu then their driver will pick u up via van and all the way they handle.

Hope u enjoy ur trip. cheers.

For clear water beach, Tioman, Redang, Lang Tengah and Perhentian all are good though the viz sometime is unpredictable, it can be very good at the right time. However, if you are like me prefer the place not to be too commercialized, crowded and want a very relax holiday, I would recommand Pulau Perhentian (particular big island) and Lang Tengah.

do u all advise i take the course over at the place or i book from a singapore dive operator? hmm.. perhentian? how long from spore, i kinda oni can get away for max 4 days. leave 2 days. :( was thinkin coral island beside tioman or sumthin..
actualli how do i go about booking? book the hotel from there and then book the boat myself? or juz book the package from a tour operator

it depends on your transportation choice. I presume you are in tight budget, so the choice would be either coach or train. The whole journey from SG until you steps on perhentian island, will takes you about 12+ hrs (coach -> taxi -> speed boat) or 14+ hrs (train -> taxi -> speed boat). it's a long journey, and we usually spend the night on the coach or train (only one timing). While I prefer coach, some of my friends prefer train as they have problem sleeping on the coach and train provides the sleeping berth option.

Perhentian is more toward backpack style. while booking through agent is a good starting point for ppl never been there, I don't really recommend you to do so. majority of the resorts on the islands can't be booked through the travel agency and they don't offer package as well (what for? perhentian has lots of nice restaurant which you should try out one by one). lots of ppl doing in this way, they booked the 1st day accomodation through walk-in, at the boat agent office, someone from the islands (eg, dive operator. some of the ops have the website and you can book their course, dive package directly. most of the time, they will help you to arrange the accomodation if you ask so) or the resort itself (this is say if you have their contact. you hardly found this information on the net), and then if they are not satisfy with the room, they will spend sometime to look for the accomodation for the subsequence days. accomodation fee on the island can be range from RM25 to RM100++ perday. try to do some study before you make any decision. If you need help in the transportation and accomodation, you may PM me.

while I'm myself prefer to take course on the islands, however, if your major purpose is enjoying your holiday, you better forget about this option. the 3d2n open water course is very intensive, you got to watch lots of video, doing lots of practise and you have to use the rest of the time to study the thick manual. Unless you can make your own study of the manual (either borrow from someone or purchase one) before departure, this option is not advised if you want to have a relax holiday. Otherwise, if you got a good instructor and able to study the manual before departure, in my personal opinion, this option tend to be more effective.

just my 0.02. cheers

p/s: Mods, sorry for the OT.
