This I would most heartily agree!:)
With all the dual-core/multi-threaded processor designs in market...there is no excuse not to take advantage of it. Even C1 is like a dog when compared to bibble on a fast multiproc system.

To be fair to nikon, they have made quite a few updates recently that have improved memory handling and performance, but on the whole I feel that a total rewrite of Nikon capture is required rather than patching on small improvements. The way the program is designed needs an overhaul in terms of workflow and performance. Maybe a NC5?
From the history, you must buy NC5 even if you have NC4.

Arto.

I actually think Nikon Software, specifically NC is a piece of outdated sh*t, but that is just me. Not multi-threaded / not hyper-threading aware. Look a Bibble Pro in comparison; one man's work there but so much better except possibly the interpretation of the RAW data that Nikon would naturally have advantage.

They can do much much better, or even better still, like Canon outsource it. It is NOT their core competency.

I do not know how the source was written but it is obviously not optimally done based on its efficiency. Furthermore, the UI is simply not that intuitive to a new user.

Still at it? It's page 20 for goodness sake!!

i used system + memory profiling software to "watch" NC in action. It does use multithreading...in fact...4 threads. Hyper threading is invisible to applications.

I guess the problem with NC is that it's imaging paging method is not the best or it does exist at all. For photoshop, the image is chopped into rectangular segments...and each segment is exists as a block in memory. Well...this speeds up the processing as the program works with a smaller amount of data each time.

Seriously, nikon should make NC as an addin for photoshop.

Yah if its non-multithreading, it would sound so much like DOS to me. Anyway, with my limited knowledge this level should be taken care of by the source compiler.

BTW upz the thread till D200 appears.

from credible source D200 advertise price will be US$1,699 pluswith grip. And it will have 1/500s flash sync. That will translate to around S$2888, nice digit. :)

I heard the grip is good, maybe it has wireless built in this time.

Keep this in mind when you plan your budget.

If it is around that price, unless Nikon already allocate a huge amount for SG market I think it will be in a absolute backorder status til Chinese New Year :D

hopefully it is around there. Might be the best buy of the year [unless a 50D or whatever D comes n ruin the party :D]

So long then come out, hope Nikon did not cut any corners which i am expecting it to be. Lets hope it will be a truly great and very importantly reliable cam. Must easily last at least 5 years type.

the vertical grip is sold separately or is like s3pro type?

well with ways electronics are manufacture this century, you will be really fortunate to have a working condition after 3 years..

Verticle grip is separate. According to what i read from other forum, D200 will have some features D2x dun hav. The on board flash will have control over other external flash group. Also the 11-AF is newer CAM-something (not sure about this). It might have sensor cleaning mechanism which is time Nikon start introducing them. As for wireless, let's hope so, and do away with those cables.

Hi all

Any idea when are the D200 coming out. I am thinking of buying the D70s end of this month.

latest hearsay has it being announced 1st Nov and in stores by Xmas.

If you really need the grip, 10mps, 5 fps then you should wait for it. If not, D70s would be a good buy as of now.

hmm....tempted to switch sides if the D200 is really as good as it is described here....5fps...10.2mp...

What for? You'll take better images? :dunno:

wait for d200 to come out 1st, thn d70s prices will drop by at least $100.

i feel tt d200 is like in the middle of nowhere, quite pro but not pro enough. i'll go stright from d70s to d2x or newer, next time when d2xs or d3 come out thn u regret with ur d200. i dont think bodies resell as well as lenses

Bodies never resold as well as glasses, known fact.

Nikon has always 3 ranges of cameras, Professional (D1s, D2s), Consumer (D100, D70), Entree (D50).

Thus if you say the D200 is not pro, nor pro enough, it just fits right into the consumer range.
