Help! Yellowish spots in 7D viewfinder

I have absolutely no yellowish tint when viewing through my 7D's VF.

Can you let us know if you have place any filters on your lens before viewing through the VF?

Hi Guys,

borrow the thread from TS in order not to waste resource.
I had bought my Canon 7D today.

However i realised the viewfinder is yellowish tinted instead with patch like what TS stated.
Is this normal?

Has anyone came across 7D viewfinder yellowish tinted?
Check the pics with white background. The pics looks perfectly white on my LCD.

Advise? thanks.:)

yo bro....sighz...its yellowish tinted.
Will inform you guys on the shop after i conclude the thing with CSC first..
Must not jump to conclusion without proper evidence. :bsmilie:

thanks.

I have the exact same situation with my 2 month old 550d... noticed my viewfinder had a yellowish tinge too. I have brought it to canon service centre and the staff there told me the 550d's viewfinder is designed to be yellowish, she even showed me a new 550d body to prove her point.

Hmm.. but somehow i'm still not too convinced.

I think the slight yellow tint is because of the transmissive LCD layer behind the focusing screen. Mine is very slightly yellow too, but then so are other 7Ds and also the viewfinders of many Nikons I've tried which also feature LCD overlays in the VF (D5000, D90, D300s). Nothing to worry about IMO. Also, with the battery out, VFs with LCD overlays will go dark and blotchy. Again, perfectly normal.

Thanks guys for your reply.
Thanks eos088 bro for lending his thread.

Yes, i had went back to the seller shop to ask for a one-to-one exchange. Without qns,
they changed it  for the shop in the north,

however, found out that the rest of the 7Ds are still the same.
So i just thank them and got back my 1st purchase instead.

No doubt about this. Will go down to CSC on Monday to enquire furthur on this. Update u guys on this issue. MEANWHILE pictures taken are fantastic sharp n nice. no yellowish taint or tinted.

Yes, the yellowish colour is still there whether or not the battery is inside.

The yellow tint is when you look into the VF or when you hold the camera from an arm's length and look at the VF?

This is a very good question.

If one places the camera at arm's length to look at the VF, there's definitely a yellow tint (multi-coat). If one is looking into the VF when place directly in front of the master eye and the tint is obvious, there's something not right with the VF.

At arm's length, the coating can appear to be yellow, purplish or bluish. And sometimes it gets "stains / spots". I clean mine with an AR coating spray and micro fiber cloth when needed.

Hi there,

came back from CSC today, they had changed one of the layers in the 7D VF, forgot the terms they use.

Results: still the same, yellowish as comapred to my 500D,
Reasons Canon CSO gave: Every new batch of 7D is like that. :dunno:
Post-arrangements: Live with it. Continue enjoying shooting with my new 7D. :bsmilie:

my Poor 7D, who had to be dissect after 3 days in my hand...:(
Nonetheless, pictures still continue to look good at my LCD end...
