My Friend has asked mi to help cover his aunt's wedding i'm just a amutuer with limited equipment and experience, the aunt is i suppose looking for someone to just shoot a few photos and make sure she has something to remember next time and they come out good. So she didn't want a professional photographer too expensive. So i was asked. cause i had basic photography knowledge and some experince.

So i was obliged to do it free cause hey he's my friend and it's not like i'm going to be very long either. So the aunt insisted to ask mi to quote a price. i pondered on the price so i'm asking fellow clubsnapper to aid mi in this desision

'they come out good' part is priceless. If it did not turn out good, she will still 'have something' to remember...

One suggestion since you are willing to shoot for free;
Shoot more, capture the best moments BUT
don't give them everything, but select 10-20 better shots and develop into 8R/S8R size.
Quote her the price to develop these shots.

so how do i go about to list a price for the photos?

Slides to S8R is around $9 at colour lab without correstion. Thing to note, slide to print will make your print come out slightly darker, i.e. about 1/2 to 2/3 stop darker. So while shooting with prints in mind, you might need to compensate for these lost of light.....

:)

eh... until now no one really answer my qusetion?

how much to charge my so called Client... ?

haha ... maybe u can charge them for the developing, buying of films, batteries, transportation, etc loh ... i mean if u really wanan do it as a free service, u can just charge her for the cost tat u incurred ...

Work it out loh..... I roll of slide around $8. Developement at RGB around $4+. Silde to print at Colour lab at $9 per S8R print...

Lets say you use 3 rolls of slides, and you take 15 slides to convert to S8R prints...

$8x3=$24
$4.5x3=$13.5
$9x15=$135

So total cost is around $172.50.........

you have to work out the cost and let your 'client' know.... All this is without even charging them your service yet..... So, just do the maths.... It's not hard.....

Like what Snowcrash had said, charge her the cost of developing the print.. or charge her whatever cost that u can think of?

So, if u are a film user,
1. Film/Slide - how many roll(s) are u going to use? The expensive one or the cheap one?
2. How many pics are u going to pass to her? in what size? how much per pic?
3. Packaging - Are u just going to pass her the pic or are u going to put them to a nice album?

ok, my estimation..
1. i supposed it's a wedding dinner and i think the minimium rolls shld be 2.Table photos could easily take 1 roll away.. so the misc pics is up to u. Since it's a wedding, use the better one lah.. $6.50 * 2 = $13.00
2. To develop 2 rolls to CD 1st and then select, say, 20 to blow up to 8R? and if she wants all the table photos, then the total cost here might be $120
3. Nice album is not cheap either, esp those good enough for wedding. I can't remember how much it cost, so let's put it as $50?

Add everything together and it's about $200.. maybe u can ask for $250 so that u can have more freedom.. can take more pic and have a larger pool for selection.. safer this way since u are just an amatuer.

ok, hoped my 'agar agar' estimation help

Thanks guy for the repsonse.... maybe cause office hours no repsonse... now after office hours all the replies start coming in.... btw i'm running on digital E-10. and the developing cost will charged to them , so i'm just charging them the basic service cost....

8R digital by fotohub.com cost $6.50

So if you do 20 = $130.
+ an 8R album ($60?) = $200+/-

And please quote ONE Price like $200 or $250 and tell them what you will give them (eg 1 CD-ROM of the 20 photos + 20 8R in an album etc.)

Shoot more from various angles (since you are new to wedding shoots. gain experience)

Some advice:-
1) Learn to capture the 'moments'. (before/during/afterceremony) Don't feel shy being there when the bride is doing make-up or joking with the bridesmaid etc.
2) If is wedding dinner, can avoid table to table shot best (past to someone else to do it.), concentrate on point (1).

Happy shooting your first wedding!
Who knows, when her friends get to see your shots, hopefully they will not ask what camera took it but WHO shoot it!

Ok thanks for the advise man.... yeah capture the moment.... i would do that... :)

What I did was I charge only for service. A small amount of diskspace on my personal webhost for their more memorable shots for their viewing and their relatives/friends.

The developing of the photos will be left up to the bride/bridegroom themselves. I will shoot in 3:2 all the time to save myself the trouble of cropping and reframing.

The shots as it is will be returned with no additional cropping other then touching up etc. The CD-Rs that I burn on to will be given to them without extra charge.

Depends on how much you want to charge. If it's friend friend, go for lucky number. $168? Or maybe $268 instead. Since you're digital, don't be afraid to keep shooting. I normally give unlimited shoots for wedding events :) but don't shoot blindly heehee.

Take all in colour then convert to B&W if you think it's nice. The grain on CMOS/CCD not that nice for B&W. Go go go!! Can I join u for the shoot? Heehee. FOC. :)
