Hi I need help, I would like to know if all AF minolta mount lens are compatible with dynax 5? I read something about lens having chips which may not be compatible with later models of camera bodies but I think it was in reference to canon. what about minolta compatible lens? thanx very much!

1: only Sigma lens may not be compatible with Canon , Nikon or Minolta. Coz Sigma don't have a license agreement with them. Very often you need to rechip Sigma lens to work with your latest body. Sigma will do it for you free.

2: If your Minolta lens is A-type mount, it will work with your Dynax 5. All Dynax series(300si,404si,505si, 5,7,9 and etc) are using A-type mount.

FWAH ninelives, you replied so fast!!!

errrmmm what's A type mount?

different brand, different generation got different type of mount.

they name their mount differently also.

for the dynax series, it is A-mount.

so it is possible for the lens to be a minolta mount lens but not A type mount? if so, can it still be used, maybe some functions less? as in is the difference physical such that the lens can't even fit, or is it a software difference, in function or chip, or wiring or contact fit? sorry to trouble you again!

No, you "have" to use A-type mount for "your" dynax .

nowaday any new Minolta or 3rd party AF lens you buy is A-type.

So don't worry too much about it. Othen type of mount won't fit your camera at all.

Thanx. my concern was cause I"m considering a tokina lens which is 4-5 yrs old so not sure if it'll be compatible. will bring my camera to test it out! thanx again!

anyone know where to service Tokina lens?

looks like there's no warranty, your best bet is to bring it down to the CWS or some place that can get it fixed. won't be cheap, maybe 100 odd?

where's CWS? it's The Camera Workshop rite? forgot where it is, rem reading it in the forum before. thanx!

in the building opposite peninsula plaza, where the ruby photo is

thinking of buying a dynax 5 for about 300 (2nd hand), do you think it's worth it?

dynax 5 is nice to use, only flaws are :

1) too light (tho I like it this way)
2) no mirror lock up
3) no diopter eyepiece (sold separately)

other than that I find that for an amateur like me, it pretty much has tons of functions for its size and value!
