Hi all,
I'm here to provide details from my side in chronological order with reference to messages between both parties (I can send those SMSes to anyone who doubt its credibility. Words in " " are direct quote from SMS exchanged. Including bad grammar and spelling mistakes.
6th Oct: Lens transacted, buyer tested the 10-22 with his old 450D for some time, took shots at various zoom length, distance, previewing images. Buyer was satisfied with the lens and asked for a discount from the listed price of $750. I gave him a $20 discount for his self collect effort and the fact that he took public transport and got lost trying to find my place.
7th Oct: At 8.19PM, buyer SMS me
Buyer: "Hi, i got a question for this lens, how come focus speed very slow."
Me: I asked him if the focusing speed is different from the day he bought and test on the spot or is it same.
Buyer: "Ok, can you extend 3 days more warranty to me. I need to test the lens. thank."
Buyer: "I will send to canon service centre to check the focus speed issue, any infor i will update you."
Me: "U sending in tml? Anyway the lens is fine. I just tested it before pass to u. You can try with other 10-22 to compare.
Buyer: "Ok. I will try with another lens first and shoot some photos see how first."
8th Oct: At time 3.42PM
Buyer: "Hi, I had already ask for checking with canon service center inform that the lens motor got problem, I try to test with other camera & 10-22mm lens, still same condition, therefore I can't to accept it, I will return to you, what time you free tonight." <-----------This is where i get a little suspicious, 8th Oct is a monday, less than 24 hours ago buyer mention that he will test with other lens and bring to canon service center to test. Assuming buyer is so free and dont need to work on a Monday, i doubt one can get hold of another 10-22mm and another camera test, as well as bring down to Canon service center to check, all done is such a short time frame.
Me: "Do u have the official document form Canon stating that its a defect?"
Buyer: "I just ask them to try, no official document to me. let's me know what you free tonight."
Me: "I will need the document to prove that what u say is true. Otherwise I will just treat it as an assumption."
At this point of time, i called Canon service center to verify if buyer have went down to service center to check the lens. The person from Canon asked for customer HP number or lens code to verify, i gave him both the lens code and Buyer's HP number. Canon personnel told me there is no record of BOTH the lens code nor HP number that came down. (Lie number 1: Buyer say he went to Canon but in actual fact he did not)
Buyer: "Are you will pay the cost if I get document for them, cost is around $50.
At this time i called Canon service center to verify again if it really cost $50 to get a statement stating the status of the lens checked. Canon personnel told me that it is FREE to get a status report of the lens from the engineer checking the lens. (Lie number 2: Buyer made up the "$50 document" figure himself)
Me: "U can get them to email u and CC to me. Stating that u send it in to test and found the problem." <------ I am more than glad to refund the Buyer if the lens is really tested faulty.
Buyer: Soon after, Buyer called me numerous times while i am in a meeting, hence not picking up his call.
Buyer: "Are you deliberately to pick up my phone? I take half day leave to walk in service center, no email, what time you free, I need to meet you, if is really spoil, how come you don't want tell me the true." <-------- I'm starting to get a little pissed with his lies and desperation to meet me to get his money back, IF the lens is indeed faulty, how can it be working in the first place when he was testing it? unless it is spoilt for whatever reason after he took over the lens.
Me: "I'm in a meeting. Anything SMS me. It's working fine as u have tested on the spot. If u really send in to Canon u should have ask for a report to verify. At least an email. It is also free to ask for a statement from the engineer. Where do u get the $50 from?
Buyer: "Ok, very sorry, I dont know you are in the meeting"
Buyer: At 4.22PM "I will go to service center before they closing and try to get the problem for them, any update detail i will lets you know after i get the result for them." <--------So is the Buyer going down service center the 2nd time in a day or is this his first time going and what he say was a lie just now?
Me: "Sure at least a email or official statement from them."
Me: "Which Canon service center did u send in to check?"
Buyer: "Harbourfront Canon service centre."
Me: "When did u send it in?"
Buyer: "I just want to send there, cos i just finish my schedule." <--------- 1. Wasnt buyer suppose to be on half day leave? 2. Buyer say he "just want to send there" does it mean this is the first time he sending? If Yes, then it leads to the points above.
Me: "Then why just now u say that u already send to canon to check and canon say its motor problem?"
Buyer: "I send there for check but they inform got charge if send for repair, so i had to ask you first before left the lens there, therefore i bring back." <-------- Buyer once confirm AGAIN that he went there before.
Me: "So u mean u went there today already?"
Buyer: "Yes, at noon."
Me: "Are u sure?"
Buyer: "I will update to you later, thank" <---------- I'm asking Buyer if he is SURE that he went down to Canon service center, why is he avoiding my question and say that he will update me later? for what?
Me: "I'm asking are u sure u went to canon service center to test the lens just now."
Buyer: "I will try to get the report to you, anyhow I try a lot of time, still can't to auto focus." <---------- Initially Buyer say Focusing is slow (as per thread tittle), now say cannot AF, so which is which?? Is Buyer confused or is he confusing me?
Me: "Can u answer my question? Are you sure u went to canon service center today noon like u mention just now?"
Buyer: "Why u need to know about me, now the main point is the lens." <-------- Duh, i'm asking about his trip to canon, not about him, who cares...
Me: "Its about whether are u telling the truth that u went to canon this afternoon."
Buyer: "Yes...."
Buyer: "Cant get the report, only can get if send for repair, cost around sgd $200, do you want to repair." <------- Gosh, i have already check that it is FREE to get a report and he still want to lie to me that he cant get it. Wonders where does this $200 figure come from again.
Me: "Who quoted you $200?"
Buyer: "The service center, or you want direct sent to there."
Ok, this is getting abit long winded. Basically, I advise him not to tell anymore lies, bring it down to Canon to verify, show me the proof and i'll refund him. He keep insisting that i meet up and go down with him which i refuse, reason being, the lens was tested by both myself and himself on the spot that it is working fine, if he thinks that it is "focusing slow and faulty" then i advise him to get official verification from Canon and i will refund him, i see no reason to take leave from my busy schedule just for his assurance. The only thing after is he keep calling me till late at night and insist that I meet up and go with him.
And now he is calling me a con man.
To all people viewing, i have stated the facts, it is your judgement to call / gossip about.
To Buyer: My statement still stands. I'll extend my refund to 1 week from your date of purchase. If you can get me the FREE official document from Canon stating that my lens is faulty, I WILL GLADLY refund u. Otherwise, STOP PESTERING ME!
EK Seng aka eggie87: How do u determine the lens is 8 year old? Wordings on the lens gone is a sign of user mark and is reflected on the condition status, u should have read the condition status before committing, do you want a refund for that?
Peace.
