Help to rescue my SD card that has been reduce to smithereens

My SD card has been chewed up by my cam. Was happily shooting one day when I encountered message of “error writing to card”. Then when I took the card out form the cam, I realized that the plastic exterior of the SD card has cracked! It could no longer fit into the camera.

In the end, I removed the plastic casing and kept only the interior; which is some miniature I.C. thing.

Does anyone know if the data can still be retrieved? If so, Where can I get this done?

btw, it's a Kingston... in case anyone wants to know....

You shouldn't have removed the plastic casing even if has cracked.
Anyway try PC Clinic at SLS. I had mine done a year ago for $80.

Have used SD cards of various brands.
Have used NO-BRAND ultra cheap SD cards.
None have cracked casing. There are no moving parts. When inserted into the camera memory card slot, it is very well protected.

It is not possible to crack the casing in normal use. Unless user wants to purposely crack it. Even then, it is very hard to do so.
User may have to repeatedly hit it with a hammer.
One possibility is that the SD card was accidentally flexed/bent during removal, when part of it was still in the slot.

I had encountered 2 cases,
a) a Sandisk - the plastic separator between the golden connectors broke off.
b) a Kingston - the case cracked.

Upon analysis, I noticed on the few pieces of Sandisks I had, the quality of the case and plastic separator varies.

You can perhaps go to Daiso to get $2 SDHC reader and just insert (carefully) the IC thingy and read it off a computer.
I would have done the same except for in my cases, there wasn't any data in them.

Went to Daiso to get the SD card reader over the weekend. It worked! Rescued all the files from my SD card. A real saviour!

The entire adventure costed me $38. Because the mountain of un-useless things at Daiso were so enticing, I bought so many other stuff, including the SD card reader. It was fun ans worth the while though.
