went to camera hospital to get it checked up... looks like it could be no hope liao but he loaded me another mag to test out.. unfortunately his mag ain't working properly...

In any case, I think I might have found another possible reason for the leak!... It's my own stupid mistake, see http://www.kievaholic.com/filmloading_oldstyle.html... I missed out step number 7!!! could that be a reason why i kenna the leaks?

mebbe. i remember for my lubitel 166U, i also din follow instructions on loading and winding closely... u can figure out wat happened to the roll... :embrass:

hm... first roll of trial B&W looks ok... no signs of any leakage whatsoever even though I blasted the camera left right centre with light.. but I know B&W is more forgiving to leaks than slides... but I din want to waste money and time on processing a roll of leaked slides till I was more sure of the leakage or rather the lack of leakage...

2mollow will try a roll of slides... *crosses fingers*!!

I used to have the K88 and had to plug my own filmbacks too.

With filmback mounted, jiggle it... is there some play? If so, it may help to use the thinnest felt you can find and press it into the recess on the body end (buy the type from art shop in black which you can cut to size from a sheet). Thiness is important, or else it will be hard to mount the back later.

It is possible its from the darkslide slot too. If you remove the screws from the face plate of the filmback, you can get at the slot and replace the felt if its worn. Another trick I learnt from an old master (A mr Wong of Wong&Munn)which he used on his hassies is to glue a flap on the body so that when the darkslide is out the flap covers the slot. You may want to try this and see if the problem goes away... if it does it means your problem is at the slot. You can change the seals in the filmback or else leave the flap there.

I also notice your frame spacing is off. Re-read your instructions for loading... the OT backs have a particular loading sequece that MUST be followed or you will have over-lapping frames.

If memory serves me (I sold my kit 3 years ago), you line up the arrows of the film and the red ones in the film insert. Then load the insert into the filmback, open the rear window... wind until you see "1" (or something else, read instructions) ... then close window , mount back and **** shutter and begin shooting. Failure to do the rear window step will lead to off spacing.

What I did was to black tape all the seams in the magazine... if it still leaks means there's something wrong with the body liao...

As for the loading I only just did it to the fly on the latest roll of slides.. still waiting for the results.. *crosses fingers*

Oh yah the flap thing is a good idea

VIRTUAL BEERS FOR EVERYONE AGAIN!!!

It's NOT my shutter that's the problem!! after using the correct method of loading the film the leak was very much reduced... also, after taping the magazine up, the leaks were completely eliminated...

Now the thing is how to seal the camera up.. i believe that it's leaking from in between the camera and mag... and maybe a little from the dark slide slot...

Can someone tell me where I should be applying the felt to? and how I should apply it?

guess dats where the felt would come in. i read dat the overseas users mod it by changing the lining on the film back. IIRC, the kievholics site got the details.

me? if i get the kiev 88, most probably will use only 1 back and gaffer it! ;p

remember to post some pics from ur fixed-up kiev hor??

can't find good instructions to fix it leh.. hm.. might just send it in for repair, but if the problem is between cam and mag then fixing the mag is pointless

Bro, how did u manage to get the felt to be thin enough? After felting area 2 (see photo above) the mag could hardly remount and after it did I had problems cocking the mag...

I removed the felt and in the end I just lined it with gaffer tape... the back doesn't jiggle as much anymore...

Okay... i THINK I solved the leaks with the gaffer and felt..

but I think I have blooming occuring... it seems to happen every single time I get a little bit of the sky into the frame.. other frames with no sky are perfect... all edges with no signs of leaks...

Pretty sure it's not a leak coz the pattern looks completely different from the previous leaks.. here's a look at a B&W shot I took..

here's one also outdoors but w/o the bloom...

last i saw it's still there... if it's leaking or not.. shrug

Gaffer didn't stop the leaks... only black tape all around did... but at least it's confirmed that the mag is the one that's leaking not the body...

not sure what else I can do now.. will probably send it in for another round of checks
