help on dry cabinet

Hi to all. I'm a new user of D70. Just bought a 2nd hand dry cabinet. 21litres akaragui if not mistaken that's the brand. Not to sure how to use it. Does it have auto cut off power or i have to leave the main power on continously. Any settings that i have to take not as there is a knob inside the cabinet. Pls if there is someone who can enligthen me... tks!!

Try checking the manual.

Most cabinets cut the power once the required humidity level is reached. You sure there's no knob inside the cabinet? Consult the seller.

I got the 80litre one from CP... yes, there's a knob inside, usually you just leave it at default... I think is "M" (suitable for camera, lens etc, according to the manual)..... after it drop to a certain level, the light inside will go off.... of course you have to leave the main power on.... if you off it, then the dry box stop working and will not maintain at the suitable level....

Never turn off the power of the dry box, the system should automatic on/off to control the humidity in the box. Once the power is off there no control to regularate the humidity.

There is no feedback sensor to cut off humidizer unit/power in non-pro drycab.

It will run on power 24/7. It is design to run 24/7, so no need to worry.

The knob inside drybox is to set the power level to humidizer unit. It will dry the water in the air faster/more when set to low humidity. Vice versa.

Sorry to dig up this old thread. I am using a Eureka dry cabinet and the strange thing is, I have to set the knob to H(high) before the light inside comes on. Assuming the metre reads approximately 45-50, I set the knob to H and after awhile, the reading drops to an optimal 25. Of course by then the light goes off.

My question is, is there any foreseeable problems setting the knob to H as far as my cameras and lenses go?

Edit - Seems like it takes longer than an hour or so to reach the normal 25% humidity that's optimal, maybe more like a few hours.

Actually, its not whether its L or M or h or whatever the letter. the most important is the humidity level. 25% seems too low for cameras and other equipment. too dry, and you will face some problems, prob with the sealant on your camera. Keep the humidity to about 45 - 55%, or whichever the number as stated on your camera manual.

Do a search on the humidity level, or check your dry cabinet manual for more info.

blive, thanks for the info. I've lost my dry box manual so I am essentially left with my new prosumer manual which states something like 40%-60% humidity or so. I think I'll have to adjust it here and there but as of last night when I unplugged the box to shift it and reset the knob till today, it's around 40%-50%. I guess that's ok lah. I'll see how it goes.

Edit - I've reset the knob to M and will wait till tonight to see how high it goes to.
