hi guys... just wanna ask abt circular polarizing filter... should i just leave the filter on my lense all the time and izit ok to shoot with the filter at night or in low lightings? thanks again

my advise is to mount it only when you need to use it.

Yup yup. With the poloriser on, I think less light enters the lens & brings u down by 1 or 2 F-stops?

thanks guys... so its best not to use during night shots?

So when exactly do we use a polarizer? When there's reflection from water?

What's the purpose of the rotating ring the polarizer has?

The rotating ring is used to control the degree of polarising you want for your pictures..

Not only you can use the filter to remove reflection on water, you can also use it to deepen the blue of the sky, bring out the clouds, and enrich the colours of your pictures. Grass will appear more green, annoying reflections removed from glass, etc. :)

Note that you cannot remove reflections from mirrors..

i think what happens when you rotate is that you are changing the polarising angle of lights (vibgyor) - hence you are able to
a. cut off reflections
b. make a scene brighter or darker (cutting off different colours)

hope that my explanation is correct.

:D

Yup.. you are quite true..

Basically the polarising filter blocks of light rays that are polarised to a certain angle.. So buy cutting of polarised rays from reflections, colours appear darker... :)

phew, after so many years, i still remember my physics :D
