Hi Clubsnappers,

Need some advice. Had been trouble with this issue for sometimes already. I'm currently using Sony MiniDV Handycam. Used to transfer the footage via firewire to my laptop with firewire port. Recently I upgraded my laptop. To my surprise, I can't find any notebook with firewire port build in beside Apple Mac Book. I'm a window user for a long time therefore I purchase a i7 notebook by Acer. I have 2 USB 2.0 and 1 USB 3.0 port only. No PCMCIA port also for new laptop.

Now how can I transfer my miniDV tapes footage to my laptop with usb ports only?

Many Thanks For Help,
Melvin

Anyone can help? I have a camcorder with firewire(4pin) And I have a laptop without firewire port. Only usb 2.0/ 3.0. I dun want change either, any working adaptor?

This $85 cable from Pixela is the closet thing I know of. Never tried it before.
Pixela PIX-UVCD/U1W FireWire to USB 2.0 Bridge Cable
Otherwise, you will just have to go via Firewire to PCMIA to USB through 2 devices. No guarantees.

Or just go analog if your footage is SD. If you shot HDV than use Intensity shuttle (blackmagic) to capture via HDMI to USB3.

Thanks bro for your respond.
1) I'll check out the $85 cables from "Pixels"
2) Regarding PCMCIA to USB. New laptop dun have the PCMCIA Port anymore.
3) Analog is out for me, HDMI port is not availabe in my old handycam.

Any more help bros here can give?

PS : Went purchase a firewire cable to USB. That dun works for me. I edit with Ulead. The program dun detect my camcorder then the cables connected.

PCMIA to USB adapter means you connect the USB end to your laptop giving you a PCMIA interface. Then , connect a firewire card to the PCMIA.

me too same thing..what the hack..upgrade to HD and tapeless am now with can xf100..great going....

you can get 1394 expresscard if your laptop has expresscard slot.

Just transfer the footage via firewire to your old laptop with firewire port. Then copy from there and edit using your new laptop. That what I did, with my DVtape.
