Help me with the prices !! Canon 30d + lens

Hi guys,

I will be in singapore shortly and planning to purchase the following gears -

Canon 30D kit with lens
70-200 f/4.0
580/550 ex flash
BG E2 grip
50 mm 1.8
85 mm 1.8
511 A battery

the problem is i have little idea of the current prices over there and the best (i mean the very best) place to get all these stuffs. please help me with the prices. my budget is about 5000 sing dollars.

I suggest not to go for the kit. Just buy the body and stay away from that plastic kit lens... I can see you're going to buy lenses anyway.

Look at the top of this forum, there's a an active thread were people are updating with the latest prices of body, lenses, & accesseries, complete with the info from which shops and their corresponding telephone numbers.

Also, think if you really need to buy extra battery. 1 fully charge battery will last you 1,000+ shots.

Sorry, but I don't remember seeing the price of the body there leh...only lenses and accessories...

well, you can always call up the shops (tel. numbers are there) to check out the prices for the body. At least there's lens prices to compare against.

regarding battery consumption...

No Flash : 1100 (+-)
50% Flash Use : 750(+-)

... I read somewhere (forgot where it was) recently, that one guy even went over 1100 shots and he's still going and going and going.... he was testing his newly purchased 30D.

Are you from Singapore? Do you the local Singapore Warranty? If not, you could try contacting some of the members here who do MO, who could give you better prices. Members like
1) The Oracle
2) tOngEh

Anyway, they probably can give you Body with/without Singapore warranty and lens with international warranty.

i think he will be coming to singapore shortly and not here yet. MO might take some time and he might not have it in time. and the lens? hmmm since you're getting prime lens and 70-200 f/4, i think you wouldn't really need the kit lens. i'm not really a canon person =x.

Hey thanks every one. Let me get more specific. I will be there in singapore on the 6-8th. So I think oracle and other MO (what is MO?) like ocacle cannot give me these things within time. I will need the kit lens since i need the 18mm (becomes 28.8) right now. I do mostly potrait so I want the 50mm prime and the cheapest L 70-200 f/4.0.

Any one over has oracles tel number on which i can contact him directly ?

SAPERBOY - the price guide which you sent me shows very discouraging prices. They are very high compared to current prices. I know this is just a guide. Any ways I have called a few shops and got recent prices. WHERE CAN I PURCHASE 70-200 f/4.0 cheapest ne ideas ?

just call the shop and ask around..:sweat:
think MS colour and cathay are quite competitive... try to bargain.. and u will get the best price. MO mean mass order...
roughly for the kit about 2350 or less..
lens u can also get a good price if u buy together with the 30D body..more bargaining power.

i recommend, just whatever you do don't get the kit lens. It's a lot better (equipment-wise and investment-wise) to get another lens of your own choosing. Good luck on your hunt.

His price is 2200 but AP is giving at 2205 (+ 5% reduction GST slip)


So i guess I will purchase from AP. If you know any cheaper, please say.

He does not seem to respond, maybe he is out. I will PM him now, I will get 580EX at 600 from him if he can give me on time.

If u go to Alan Photo at Sim Lim Square branch... look for someone call Ah Tan. The rest may quote u higher prices.

thanks, but I think Funan is better. Do you think good bargaining at SIM LIM branch will get me cheaper price than Funan's best price ?
