Me bad...u r rite.

The 12MB image is 4256x2848. 3024x2016 in Hi Mode only applies to TIFF.

Paiseh for the confusion.

I thought I had enuff sleep.... :bsmilie:

haha it's ok lah. need to put correct info mah.. later this dude buy sala camera.. :bsmilie:

ehh...... are there S2s left in Singapore? I thought they were all out-of-stock...

some unknown stuff stucked to the filter, and they dun know what it is also...so change FOC as it was still under warranty....
i wouldn't care too much about dust on the ccd...as long as still under warranty, send it to nikon for cleaning... :D

Is this THE problem with DSLR? The dust on CCD problem?
Is that why the E-1 has a special ultrasonic filter built in?

dunno abt the E-1, but for nikon dslr, the dust on ccd is not much of a problem. just take care when mounting lenses (e.g. camera mount face down/try not to change lenses in windy situation....etc)

4256x2848 = 12MP image? :P

Yes. Its 12 MP. Why?

And that image is about 12 MB in size.

I use a S2Pro. While I knew of the "problems" with S2Pro (eg. grip, dual batteries etc) I chose the S2Pro because:

- My lab told me that S2pro images much easier to print compared to d100, which has a magenta cast which very difficult to remove
- highest effective resolution as tested by dpreview
- beautiful skin tones
- no need to use raw to get quality, just shoot jpgs. D100 need to use raw get quality
- High ISO noise is really well controlled. At ISO 800, looks like got no noise at all. At ISO 1600 still very acceptable and much better than anything out there.
- Can use older Nikon Flashes
- Has PC sync
- Can use AA batteries which last very long .. can easily last 400-500 shots on AA and around 1,000 for lithium ..

always thot it was a 6mp camera. maybe 12 is interpolated
:dunno:

yup~ ;)

the 12M is interpolated!

dunno why some people have the tendency to look down on the interpolated 12mp of the S2pro.

the S2pro's natural output is 12mp because of the properties of the super CCD.
it's sensors are arranged in a honeycomb pattern and their distance is nearer, much closely packed than normal CCD. thus with 6million sensors they can derive 12million pixels. it cant produce a natural 6mp even if u want it to.. it has to scale down.

Despite what people say about the interpolate results, its the measured resolution that counts . check this

http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/fujis2pro/page19.asp

Extract from DpReview

"An excellent performance for Fujifilm's flagship D-SLR. Absolute resolution is noticeably (and measurably) higher than the D100 and EOS-D60 at the 12 mp image size and slightly more at the 6.1 mp size. Also importantly the ability to continue to resolve detail continues for longer at the 6.1 mp size than the other six megapixel digital SLR's."

yup, the interpolated pics from the SuperCCD really does resolve more than a usual CCD/CMOS with the same number of sensors and contain extra details. This is now an established fact.

Your first point has not been observed by me or a few of my D100-using friends. My guess is that the lab does not understand the AdobeRGB file submitted to them...

Point three and four: It is all relative. *I* have no problem. Neither does USMC. Check out their Photo gallery. They have quite a few taken with D100/jpeg.

The rest are quite accurate; noise in the photos (not the sterile charts) is quite fine, PCSync can be found on my flash though. However, the D100 battery solution is better for *me*

Set the Colour profile to III :) Should fix the problem.

Bro,
I have come across this web site perhaps you might want to take a look - www.kenrockwell.com - hopefully it will answer all your questions. Once you are in the web site. Go to the "how to" it will show you all that you need to know.
Have fun in photography!

Thanks for all the inputs. Now I come to following dilemma in my decision:
  • S2pro allows me to do TTL with my existing SB26!!
  • But S2pro produces RAW in 12mp. This costs me more in CF. And I was told D100's RAW output is superior. (I purpose I'll use mainly RAW format.)
  • I have the perception that, because of the "Nikon" brand, not performance merits, D100 will have a higher resell value than S2pro.

I think I need to sleep over it for many nights...

dude, if you want to shoot in RAW most of the time, get the D100.
the S2pro is for direct jpeg output. dont even need to convert the raw file.
just shoot in auto bracketing all the time can liao. so u can choose ur shots.
