get a 2nd hand 70-300 VR from the BnS, then add on the raynox like what irshoot recommend.

if 18-55 then 55-200, if 18-105 then 70-300, but for DX body i seldom use until 300, too far which equal to 450.

Yeah, precisely, 300 is a bit too long to shoot. At 450, it is quite difficult to hold steady, to keep your subject steady in the VF and shoot properly. This is especially so for a beginner. Unless you're trained as a sniper, then, it is another story la.:bsmilie:

I suggest you borrow a lens from a friend or try it out in one of the shops to see for yourself how easy or how difficult it is to shoot at 300 on your D3100.

Unless you love to bring along a tripod and shoot systematically with one. I find it cumbersome to bring one along. Unless it is nite shoot or fireworks.
