Help me make a choice

Hi!

I have a Leica Noctilux 50mm F1.0 for a year. I must say this lens is great to work on but because of its heavy weight I am feeling a little
tired when working on street photography. Lately I am thinking of changing to the 50mm F1.4 lens. But I am just worry I may regret after
selling off the 50mm F1.0 because I cannot keep 2 50mm lenses.

Can anybody give me some advise? Many thanks.

If you don't need 2 50mm lenses, why not keep the Noct and get another 35'Lux?

I would keep the Noct too, and get a 35mm

Well you need to ask yourself if you need the low light of a Noctilux. If not a 50 Summilux would serve you well and for the difference, you can actually get another lens.

Noctilux is a swell lens. If it focuses well on my digital m i will keep it. Otherwise just sell it and get a decent 50 so you can shoot with ease. Used market has plenty of noctilux f1 anyway.
My humble opinion that is...enjoy your happy problem bro.

maybe you can consider getting a zeiss 50/1.5 or voigtlander 50/1.5 and keep your 50/1;)

Keep the Noct. Why? Bragging rights. The warm glow of feel good factor when you get envious looks from others using 50 Summilux.
You will regret selling the Noct. This is not about photography. Who cares whether you took the pic with a Noct or a Summi? Nobody is going to buy your photos, right? Photos are just for your own satisfaction.

Word!

Hi!,

Thanks for the replies. I think I will keep the Noctilux and tomorrow I will sell off my 35mm F2.0 and go buy the new 35mm F1.4 ASPH. Good review on this lens too. I love to shoot at F1.4.

+ Lens will appreciate in value if you don't sell.

+ Low Light Photography is a very rare domain,
ie. not many people know how to shoot without flash.
This is a Plus point, afterall one of the objective
of photography is to take pictures that is unique to you.
Noc = Nox in Latin aka Night. Lux = Light.

- Heavy and off-balances the Body,
making it hard to focus and carry
around for street photography

- Is this your carry around lens or is this
a special purpose lens ? The ratio of my
special lens to carry around lens is like
1:50 usage ratio. I have a Summicron and
a Lux. I end up carrying the Summicron more
than the Lux. Maybe because of the size or
the closer focus capability, the Summicron
felt more natural, while my Lux stayed at home.
But that doesn't mean i am going to sell the Lux.
I put this as a "Con" because it is a more
subjective side of keeping or letting go of a lens,
it tends to be more emotional rather than
rational.
