You could consider using a decent to good general zoom (according to your budget) + a good prime of your choice (according to your style). Best of both words.

Image quality is really nice, but the same level of IQ may not shine in every picture. Sometimes its just not so necessary, especially in situations you can or must stop down, most lenses will catch up by F4 or F5.6

But as an update, i've bitten the bullet and gotten myself a humble 35mm f2 ! and i think i'm gonna find it hard to bring my tamron "standard" 17 - 50 zoom around anymore !

The prime addiction continues... I just hope I don't get another itch. The L lenses are way out of my league so they don't bother me too much; The 85 f1.8 and 100 f2 are however different stories altogether... thank god I don't fancy telephotos so much.... yet.

one thing good about canon cameras is take u can buy old manual focus (MF) primes with the use of adaptors to use it on your canon camera. and most old MF lenses can be used.

u can consider these old MF primes, some of them are as good as L lenses. no joke!
