Pls help! I wanna invest in a good camcorder for professional use mainly outdoors and events. my budget is around $3k and i've been eyeing panasonic's DVX102b.. the other semi-pro high def cameras are way above my budget..

The main thing that's holding me back is my fear of the camera going obsolete in no time. The emergence of p2 and SD recording formats, High Definitation.. I'm afraid the SD, mini-DV recordings of the DVX102 may not match up to it in a few years time. the DVX102 is probably the last mini-DV camera of it's generation..

By then, i'm afraid even selling it at a reasonable price may become a probelm..

What do you think i should do, go ahead and get it or invest in a better camera when i'm ready?

I think the SD will still be in the main market for at least 5 years. DVX102 is a good cam, but it's low light performance is bad.

Wah which camera u comparing to regarding low light for dvx102? Very good already liao la unless u compare against the pd170, i have not really heard of anything better in the same price range.

I like the DVX bcoz it has very nice colours.. also lets me have the filmy effect i like. I feel the Pd170 is a little blue-ish and very raw. but i agree the DVX looks a-tat-bit grainy under low light but that can be solved with a small light...

Thats one of the reason the dvx is one of my fav cam. Used to be pd170 but i personally feel controland handling wise , dvx is better.

if u do not need xlr, a new fx1 cost 3.9k

So u think the DVX102Ben will still be in use for at least the next 3 years? i'm looking at the newly launched HMC152 as well..
