Help! M9 - stuck thumbs up.

Tried the cloth method. Still stuck. sigh......

Tried the cloth method. Still stuck. sigh......

Get your nails of your forefingers of both hands behind the top corners of the thumbsup and using a lever movement of each finger to try to 'walk' the item out. Might need considerable strength and slowly.

Another method is to try to slide a very thin piece of cloth behind the lever and then grabbing the cloth together wriggle out the ThumbsUp slowly.

Do not use oil or grease to lubricate the item before inserting as it might get into the top housing depending on how fine the oil is and quantity. I used a light rub of candle wax on each side of the ThumbsUp before inserting and I do not have any trouble removing it again. Hope this helps.

This is proven safe method to remove "thumb up".. i use this method to remove the tight thumb up....

A safe way to remove the thumb-ups without prying or dangerous M9 body harming method.

Get a cotton cloth ( soft yet strong) such as those from china made Swan brand singlets..
slide it single layer through from bottom up ie. from LCD screen direction upwards all the way into the thumb up body.

Once the cloth manages itself over into the right angle part of the thumb up. Now you can twist a couple turns of the cloth into a twill strong enough to strangle anything..

holding the M9 near the sides between the both ends of the thumb up with one hand... use the other hand holding the cotton cloth twill slow pull slowly but steadily and pop! it will come off..

very similar to using cable tie but much safer as the cloth is soft yet strong enough to yank the piece of the hot shoe slot.

don't use anything to pry the thumb up...

i did it twice and it works well without harming the body.. again you might need to always exercise caution and discretion when you yank the thumb up fixture out..slow and steady.

Andrew will probably ask u to remove any accessory yourself first least anyone accuse him of damaging the camera.

Thanks- managed to wiggle it out without a scratch.
After what gommy and benny mentioned, I was determined to give it one more go.

Let me know if you still can't remove it. I will come over to your place and help. I've got my hammer, cold chisel, screwdriver and blowtorch if all else doesn't work.

My tools are all American made by SnapOn, so not to worry about me using inferior stuff.;);)

On a serious note, I can understand that you don't want to damage the camera removing the Thumbs Up. Send me a SMS and let me have a go, I'll be gentle.

Thanks astroboy, snap on and craftsman by Sears are tools on my list too.
Nothing like the good old singlet by Swan for this job.

Appreciate all the response and would like to thank all who had contributed.
Its moments like this that makes this forum such a wonderful place for learning.
