Help! I think I spoilt my shutter mechanism!

Hi all,

I was fiddling with my FED-5 when i realised that the cocking lever does not fully return to the rest position. I may have not fully depressed the rewind crank before cocking and firing a few frames before realising the film did not advance with each cocking.

It used to fully retract flush with the camera body but now it sticks out at an angle. I have to manually push it back into the flush position.

Some of my frens mentioned that I may have damaged my spring mechanism.
The shutter still fires off fine without making wierd noises but the sticking out part irks me.

Anyone has lobang to repair this at a cheap and reliable place in Sg?

You can try Cam.X they sell alot of rangefinder cameras..

But hopefully the repair fee is the as expensive as a New one.

Hi,
I remembered I was using my school's FM10 for my photography class and I encountered problems with the shutter also. The people at Cathay Photo recommended me to this place at The Adelphi for repairs. The name of the shop is P & G Photographic Centre.

You can probably try there but I'm not sure whether they repair rangefinders.

Another place would be The Camera Hospital; #01-67 at Sunshine Plaza. I've never been there before but I read about them from the papers. I cut them out for reference in case if I need to repair my camera or such.

Welcome to the wonderful world of Soviet engineering, lol! Usually the mechanisms on such cameras are rather fragile. It could be damaged when you allowed the advance crank to 'snap back' violently after u cranked. most probably the repair costs won't be worth it. there are some groups on yahoo! that specialise in russian rangefinders. i believe u can find alot of useful DIY help there!
