I am not sure if this is the correct place to ask this:

i am new to videos and im just trying out. I am particularly attracted to this kind of cinematography and its colours.

I have 2 questions:
1) But how do you achieve the effects in the videos below? the saturation and colours.

2) how do u encourage flare as shown in some parts of the videos? ive tried facing my camera in way of the sun, but instead of getting flare, the clip just gets over exposed. is there certain filters i need to use? must not use lens hood?

I am using 550d with these lenses:
50mm f1.8
18-55mm kit lens
10-22mm canon
70-200mm f2.8 IS USM

currently using just basic imovie as editing software.

You can use Magic Bulllet Looks for color grading and Video Co-pilot Optical Flare Studio for the flares.

You probably want to upgrade to a professional editing tool - Avid Media Composer, Final Cut Pro, Adobe Premiere Pro or Sony Vegas. They will have tools to do colour grading, such as pushing the saturation and adding vignetting (which is quite evident in this video).

As for flare, I think there is no magic here. Just control your aperture (you will want a smaller aperture here) or add Neutral Density Filters (most likely u have to) if you are already maxed out at F11 or F16. Post-added flares are usually cheesy-looking. Not sure about Bamboopictures's suggestion though.

Magic bullet looks works with FCP, PP or Vegas or by itself for colour grading. Use Magic Bullet Looks and then like tengo said shoot the flares yourself.
