Help finding some gear in Singapore

Hey, Ill be in Singapore in a few days, and was wondering if someone could help me out as to where I could buy some gear for my Canon 600d/where I could get the best prices:

The manybrand fisheye for Canon (Rokinon, Bower, Samyang, Opteka etc.) 8mm with an Aperture of 3.5

Its a longshot, but something like the Zeikos LCD Digital SLR Viewfinder

And finally, the Rode Videomic Pro

Im new to the forums, so if I am not in the right place or I've done something else wrong, please let me know. Thankyou! All these products can be seen on BH Photo/Video website, but because I am new I cannot post links to the products.

Hi, you can find your Samyang fisheye here:

Camera Lenses - Samyang Lenses - Sgcamerastore.com :: Professional Photography Accessories / Videography Equipments / Studio Lightings / Studio Kits / Studio Equipments - (Powered by CubeCart)

No 5 Coleman Street #02-18
Excelsior Hotel and Shopping Center Singapore 179805

For the other products, your best bet would be Cathay Photo at Peninsula plaza as they carry the widest range of equipment. The two shops are about 3 minutes walk apart.

I'm not sure if you should buy the Samyang lenses here... I think they might be more expensive than some other places?

Thanks for the replies guys. The Samyang Fisheye lens from SGcamerastore costs a little more than I'd like to pay, but if thats the only option available then Ill have to go with it. I wanted it for the rest of our holiday, as after singapore we go over to Europe for about a month, so I wanted to use it then. Are camera stores like the one mentioned in the first post (SGcamerastore) open to haggling or beating their prices down? Or is it just a matter of the listed price is what it costs, with no room for movement?

I was planning on going to Cathay Photo anyway as I had heard good things about them. Can anyone make any reccomendations for where to go at Sim Lim Square, as Ive heard that some places in there are quite cheap also.

Thanks for the quick replys, you guys are really helping me out!

It was going for $380 at comex...not sure if this is a good price for u.

They may honor the comex price

Sgcamerastore prices are fixed, members of the store can get a small discount though. Cathay photo prices can be haggled. Do not go to Sim Lim Square, it's a trap for both tourists and locals, god knows how many people have been cheated there. The only shop in Sim Lim that can be trusted is Orient Photo on level 6. To check out equipment, you can take a look at TK Foto and SLR Revolution at Funan IT Mall.

sim lim is probably the last place you want to go

Where is Comex located? $380 sounds like a much more reasonable price, it was going to cost about that much off ebay with shipping.

I just found out that I will be staying at the Excelsior Hotel, which is convieniently located right across the road from both Peninsula Plaza and Funan! Ill be spending alot of time in there by the sounds of it, really looking forward to it now!

Comex is an exhibition for IT and electronic products, the last day was yesterday.

Damn, thats a shame. Ill just go over to the nearby malls and see whats the best price I can get. One last question, what would the price be (roughly) on the Canon 35mm F2? Thank you all so much for the help, you guys are great :)

Samyang lens are overpriced in Singapore. Best place in Singapore to buy them is actually Ebay and have it shipped over, still much cheaper.

Don't even walk into Sim Lim Square, for the salesmans there knows how to cast spells on tourists. Many well informed tourists still fell victim there, despite being warned.

At Funan IT Mall, avoid a certain store infamous repute that starts with B... Read about the grievances here: Consumers Corner

I doubt it. Not sure where you are coming from but Singapore has the least appealing camera stores in the world. Singapore isn't Tokyo.

It's not that bad la.

I think Hong Kong also like that. :bsmilie: But yes, Europe was better in my memory though the prices are so much more expensive.

Wherever you shop, it is the same. The consumer needs to do homework, there will always be price variations between retailers. Some people buy from overseas due to season sales, VAT rebates, latest trend, etc. Do bear in mind when shopping overseas, it is harder to execute lemon law and warranty may not be valid. So the savings can quickly become cost. Up to individual to weigh and manage the risks.

Generally for people living in Singapore, I feel quite safe with the new lemon law now when making purchases locally. Nevermind the price may not be the best. Sometimes I pay a little bit more for the electronics sold in the retail shops ard my neighbourhood. If everyone buys from Sim Lim, then these shops wouldn't be ard when you need those occasional items fast.

Obviously I didn't talk about prices.

Think ageha is talking about service level la, and by that he doesn't mean John 3:16 "brother, brother" type of service. :bsmilie:

Coming from Australia, so I am pretty sure Singapore shits allover our camera stores for both range and (somewhat) pricing. Most of the things I want none of our stores stock like the Samyang fisheye or a Yongnuo flash, so Im getting the over there to avoid shipping costs waiting, and so I can use them through the rest of our overseas adventures

I worked in Sydney for 3 years. True, Australia is left behind as well compared to the 1st world countries (just talking about high street and online shops) but the camera stores still offer a better shopping experience than here in S'pore.

Somehow I feel Caucasians will have a better shopping experience compared to locals, you know how those camera shops have double standards while serving different customers.
