Actually I don't recomend getting 2nd hand PnS cameras....their life span is quite limited!!

How come they still have 1/1.8" 4MP CCD in stock? Otherwise they'll replace the faulty set with a A630 FOC... which is quite a bit faster. Ha~

Just incase there a cheapos who hope to get a quick and free upgrade! They would have order the same no. of new CCD as the no. of faulty CCD used during the manufacturing process.

Sony stopped production of 1.8"/4MP quite a while before the problem emerged in large numbers. I have a friend having his IXUS with a faulty CCD replaced by a new model FOC.

I got a canon A640 too. Hmmm..still not too good with it. But I believe in Canon

Testing my Canon!

i am using an a630 (for about a month or so now). i needed to have a flipable screen so this was a good compromise. its a decent camera considering it is supposed to be canons 'budget/entry level' range. i like that it has full manual control so that i can learn before deciding to plunge into dSLR land. i also like that it has a decent macro mode and a minimum focus distance of 1cm. its quite versatile for what it is and for the price i paid its a value for money camera that is packed with functionality.

some sample shots from this camera to give you a feel for the picture quality. hope this helps.

could it be a connection problem with the battery compartment?

Thanks to all of you for enlightening me through this discussion, I've actually given up on my 2 PNS camera because of the CCD problem - was almost going to pass to my kid as masak masak. I've just sent both my A70 and A95 to Canon and awaiting news from them to see if it's really free ... keeping my fingers crossed.

My LCD showed BLACK when in shoot mode. What ever I took, it was black.
But stil able to view wahtever that was stored int he Memory card.

I sent to Canon in late march.
They told me that my shutter or something was spoilt. Need $200 to replace.

I recenlty just collected it back without replacement. I wonder if its the same CCD problem which i can get free replacement.

hi.. if i have a80 but it hasnt get the ccd problem yet, will i get the ccd replacement foc if i sent to the ssc?

Think they will only replace your ccd if they certified that it's spoiled. If it's still working well, they probably wouldn't do anything even if you bring it down to the service centre.

My A70’s CCD died again! anyone know if canon will replace it again?

My A70 CCD also died again after I got it changed FOC about 1 year ago.

doh
anyone send it thru funan outlet?

a80 down liao :(
but im working.....cant bring in for service during weekdays @ harbourfont outlet.

Sorry to dig up this thread, but just thought I'd like to share that I've had my A80 CCD replaced FOC back in Oct 07. And now, the CHANGE THE BATTERY PACK problem has come back to haunt my camera.

These are the EXACT same 2 problems that troubled my previous camera, a Canon A70 back in 2005, which led me to start this thread in Clubsnap:

http://www.clubsnap.com/forums/showthread.php?t=122104

Of course, back then, Canon Singapore did a good thing and gave us a $140 upgrade to a Canon A95 (which I passed over to my gf). Now, I'm waiting with bated breath to see if there might be any reasonable remedial measures to salvage this situation with the Canon A80 as well. Of course, I understand that this camera is already 3 yrs old, but well, how often do you get the same 2 problems killing off 100s of cameras in the same manufacturing batch? There's gotta be a serious problem somewhere.

BTW, my camera before the Canon A70 was the Canon A40, which is still working to this date. I've always been a fan of Canon but these issues with my last 2 PnS cameras have been really troublesome...

Just wondering, anyone else here also faces the same problems? CCD-wise, we know for sure there're quite a lot, but anyone having the CHANGE THE BATTERY PACK problem too?
