Help and Advise needed - PnS or Mirrorless

Mirrorless doesn't mean anything if it is not a true feature but just a type of camera.

Getting a df, he may just need 1 body and 1 set of lenses. The D5100 can then be a spare body for shots that require long zoom (cropped sensor).

In any case he's going to buy a full frame. Why not something small and light at a reasonable price yet harness the quality of a D4 sensor? Do check out the prices at Technogadgets. (I'm not affiliated to them in any way)

Have you actually see and feel the Nikon DF in the first place.

Doesn't looked that small to me, and I don't think it is light too.

A7 is a full featured camera, don't know why you doubt that or saying mirrorless is not a full feature camera but just a type of camera (actually don't even understand that statement... all cameras are a type of camera... and mirrorless are full featured, the only thing that mirrorless camera did not have is a OVF... but many people will tell you that EVF performed almost as good as EVF and Sony had the best EVF system. Plus many mirrorless cameras nowadays had extremely fast AF system that once only DSLR had, so that is solve too.)

Ts wan a small camera for back up, he go suggest similar dslr size Nikon DF zz

I would personally pick the xz-2 or even the older xz-1 (if I can find) rather than the xz-10. But to each his own. Just a tip, you may want to shoot raw+jpeg and not just jpeg only, because the noise reduction in olympus' jpeg rendering is so strong it smears details most of the time. Better to shoot raw and edit in post.

I tried looking for the older model but most places have run out of stock, and the current model promo is very good. Ya I already notice the noise reduction issue .... but the file size for RAW is so huge and is very slow when writing to the card :(

I will shoot using C or P mode, where I can control the setting.

If have space in your luggage, do consider bringing a light duty tripod too :)

Landscape shots with camera on tripod is still better than those taken using high ISO..

of course if photography is the reason why TS is travelling, getting nice pictures is top priority :bsmilie:

... I wanted to suggest Lumix GX1. Not most current though.

i would have suggested a Fujifilm Finepix F series. for the low price, they sure perform wonders :)
