is the 18-70mm f/3.5-4.5G IF-ED any good? is it the kit lens of D70 right?

compared to the AF Zoom-Nikkor 18-35mm f/3.5-4.5D IF-ED

call me wierd, but for the store shots, i would ask u to consider the 10.5mm or the sigma 15mm fisheyes. I know is unorthodox to use fisheye due to the distortion, i have found that many customers actually find the shots more pleasing if used tastefully. The wideness is hard to manage, but the distortion gives it a nicer feel i can't quite describe. I find that the corrected wide angles do not have the same impact. again, its a lot on how u use it. B&S, i'd go for a 20mm, a fisheye, a 60mm Micro and a 135mm. All relatively cheap primes. U do not need the longer focusing distance that the 105mm affords.

my boss is egging me on the fisheye lens as well, but i only get the russian one cost it only cost $300. Actually kiat, your list is rather similar to my, very close but the 20mm may still cost a leg in his mindset.

a got one fisheye for my own usage, will try out the shops soon!

DX lens can mount on and use as per normal on film slr. but at a certain focal length, it will be "too wide" and leads to vignetting.

Yes yes fisheye 10.5mm. BUY !! BUY !!
However if you are using digital than don't get the 15 or 16mm type.
These will not give you fisheye effect on a digital.

I would restate that being.. DX lenses can be mounted film Auto SLR's, but not manual film SLR's. Coz all DX lenses are G-lenses.. you would not want to be shooting everything at f/22. (Hint:No aperture ring)

And the only 2 lenses that I know that can be used on a film body are the 12-24 and 17-55

10.5 and 18-70 cannot be used, image vignetting.

for the record, they all vignette, just to what extent. The 15mm and 16mm is fine. U still get the fisheye effect, just not as wide. It still works. I used a 16mm with a d100 for a while last time. B&S, DO NOT GET THE RUSSIAN LENSES. You are shopping for the company for goodness sake. It ain't worth the risk Suffice to say that for a slight bit more, u can get the sigma 15mm. At least u won't have lens mounting problems. Russian lenses have inherently low QC and almost no warranty. It ain't worth it. The 10.5mm will be rather pricey at close to 1k though. As for the 20mm, if u shoot with a tripod, u can also consider the tokina 17mm f3.5s. I used one for a long time and got mine 2nd hand from TCW at 200 bucks.
