Heartlands, A True Singaporean Story

Yeah, those were really subjective criticisms. The shots are generally good. :)

Actually kinda agree with Yoricko. The tilt seems to trivialize what could be a meaningful story.. Then again this is just a personal view. But regarding the vignetting... I like also la, but on some really got too much of it..

But in general it's a good series, and I like how you went in so close to get your story told.

Nice shots Gary,... looks like a great series coming up.
Now that you have the wide-angle lens on your RF, I can hardly tell which is the RF shots, and GRD ones

Nice series, looking forward for more

Bro don't worry too much just shot your style, i didn't notice the "flaws" till the critique came. I am too engross with the hardlanders going about their daily routines. Shoot more, Post more, So i can See more.

Great series neighbour! Don't care too much about other people's opinions. Stay true to yourself! ;)

Thanks guys, no worries, always good to hear some feedback to keep things on track.

I have to say the tilt I do experience it quite a bit in my shots where there are lines involved. Never got these with 35mm or 50mm lenses which I've shot with but with the 21mm, its quite obvious when you are just slightly off, shows up quite significantly on the picture.

oliprolli my dear neighbour, still trying to shoot as good as you la!!!! You are inspiration!

I'll prob go to Bedok in the coming few weeks when I've got the time over the weekend. Everyone has been shooting queenstown, tiong bahru, redhill & stuff but I've yet too see Bedok which is really near my place. Hopefully time allows me to do so over the next few weekends.

This weekend, its kick back, get drunk on my flight tomorrow & see where the road takes me

Great job Gary!!! I must find time to shoot!!....

IMO, the high contrast and heavy vignetting is so Gary, i can recognize his photos.. obviously it's Gary's style, and i don't have any objection in it.. Rather, i believe that we should have our own distinctive style, just like this..
cheers.. :)

yeah. heavy contrast and vignette = RWC.

oh and white out eyes. hahah sometimes the subjects in your pics have scary piercing eyes. but its distinctively RWC, which is good cos he has his own style.

but hey Yoricko has an opinion. RWC has an opinion, I have an opinion. should all agree to disagree sometimes. :)

hehe! agreed! everyone has their own opinion.. afterall, photography is an art form.. it all depends on the person who enjoy it!

Camera: Leica M3 + Avenon 21mm F2.8
Film: Ilford HP5+

Under the influence & guidence of our dear Mr Ox of IPA, I've been slowly starting to shoot series on the sidelines rather than just the random street photography shootings.

Not very up to standard yet but I think there are more heartlands I have to go to to take more pictures down the line, I'll update this thread when I get more pictures...

hello bro! Just saw this, I think its really a good switch towards a more refine and definite photographic vision. Mine is also starting to evolve, exciting times I should say, keep it up! looking forward to more!

Nice feature Gary. I applaud you for your idea, and your belief in your heavily vignette-shots. I understand where Yoricko was coming from. Personally post-vignette can be a pretty infectious “tool”, and when this infection hits you, you may feel that your pic are naked without them, its nothing good or bad, you just have to speak for your own style. Believe me some of us will go thru that phase, and when you passed it, it is possible that you may hate your previous heavily vignetted shots, I say it may, so it is possible that you may love it even more. Then again, as time passes, most of us look back at our previous work and always puke at our own so-called “masterpieces”.

I am following this thread Gary, so keep them coming. I will sms you some of the less-travelled heartland places in Spore later tonight, (hopefully they can be of use to u). Cheers.

Great series Gary, always enjoyed looking at your photos with your distinctive style. The world would be very boring if all the photos looked alike.
