HDR image of a block of flats

I am actually happy that everyone is blunt.
If they were to say "Nice shot!", "Well processed!", then it will be totally hypocritical and whats the point of a critique session.

This is right, if TS expects answers like "nice shots" or "great image", well this may not be the place, especially with image with that kind of standard.

i can't emphasis how much i agree to this..

arikyeo, if you put your photograph here, prepare to be criticized, this is the whole idea of having it posted in critique corner, if you only want to accept compliments, this is not the place, at least it is not the place with such lack of effort in taking the photograph (or worse still, choosing which photograph to be posted) and such attitude. even kenrockwell made some decent composition when testing lenses, same goes to dpreview and other sites.

taking comments from others are part of learning process that does not make you a bad photographer, in fact, it will help you shape up to be a better one.
on the other hand, disregard and arrogance in accepting critiques from others will make you lose out.

you picture really suck but there nothing wrong with having a bad picture. Everyone has to start somewhere and learn. But what is bad is your attitude. To most of us, you are the "Black Sheep"... not willing to take any negative comments, not willing to learn. Which means you are not worthy to be taught. Good luck to you. You will be ignored.

because I was reviewing the kit lens at that time, the whole neighborhood was having some kind of celebration. Anyway the void deck wasn't a good place to take because of the trees. And I'm staying 2 floors below the top, 8th floor to be exact.

No, I didn't. I used Photomatix's "3d effect" on the image to patch up the right hand corner which was originally too bright. No, I didn't use GND...

On closer inspection and scrutiny, the image looks like it has pincushion distortion created using the 18mm end of the kit lens...

From the numbers & data I gathered from reviews, the 18mm end gives more distortion than others, turning it from "negligible" to "Obvious"...

Excuses excuses excuses...

In the end all I see is that
1. skills sucks eggs,
2. too lazy to put in any effort to have a good composition,
3. thinks he is God's gift to the world of photography
4. too proud to acknowledge all of the above.

Have a good life. But if you keep up with this attitude in everything you do, I doubt you will have that too...

If the picture is bad its bad, no point trying to defend it. No one is making personal attacks here, just commenting on the picture. If you choose to ignore the comments here, you will just end up producing more "beautiful" pictures like this one, which no one other than you can see the so called "beauty".

you only mention 8th floor not a good view, void deck no good. :sweat:

looks like you need a 17-40 L lens to ensure that you get the normal sort of distortion for wide angle lens, which is barrel distortion.

just a feeling I had : senior photographers should be a kind and encouraging and not so crtitical and blunt - after all this man arikyeo has taken a bold step and decided to put out his wares and ask for advice - and reading the comments made me feel that there was a need for a bit more softness and gentleness and human-ness rather than blunt critique and hard comments...just a thought..

i mean, this picture looks like a picture where said face-wanting person anyhow swing kit lens around and anyhow shoot, then post online hoping that people will "wa, hdr!!! love!!!!"

but we must remember the background of the shooter before we critique. so i have not made any comments yet... here is a good set of comments that i think the TS will take very well:

(1) very good job considering you were trapped in the kitchen and couldn't move around!

(2) hdr effect very nais, i like how the flats are glowing with a divine light :heart:

(3) looks like it was taken with L lens leh

p.s. how come such a great photographer like you using KIT LENS and REVIEWING it??? isn't it beneath you? :bigeyes:

three pages of comments is hardly see in critique corner nowadays,

after seeing the photo, all I can say is if photographer didn't make efforts on creating, capturing a photo. No amount of post processing can make it great.

Ones can love a photo dearly, but it may mean noting to people.

post a photo in critique corner is to seek comments to improve on your photography, should thank everyone for their time and effort to look at your photos and give comments, irregardless good or bad, you can learn something from members' comment, whether is good or bad comment, as long you open your mind.

it is time for everyone to move on,

to TS, do some self critique before post in critique corner. remember: Critique Corner: Post your image in here to get serious and honest feedback from fellow photographers. Please read FAQ before posting.

to other members, give your comments to some other members in critique corner too.
