Does anyone have a workflow to share for editing HD content? Do you keep your raw HD files after editing?

Since there is no bluray or HD-DVD burners out in the market, I find myself only able to keep my content in DVD and I am scared to throw away my HD files. What should I do? Is there an industrial standard to follow?

Hi,

What you are asking is the issue of backups, esp the source files. Our experience is with MiniDV but the methdology is similar since they are both large files. There are a few options:

1. Keep the original tape in a low humidity and stable low temperature
2. Keep the HD content on hard disk and use the hard disks as backup
3. Do all of the above to be very safe

There are Bluray dvd burners out but writable Bluray media has not been verified for long term archival properties.

Additional point to note is informing your clients (if you are doing this as a business) that you are not keeping the original HD contents. This clause must be included in your contract with them to protect yourself.

Best regards

Since HD contents are so big files, some user are using HDVSplit to capture as .m2t files with splitting few clips to backup on 4.7GB or 8.5GB. Is good to backup .m2t files when capture. ;) HDV tape still $$$ :o

Thank you. Will have a look at this software.

Thanks for the tip. I can't wait for cheaper Bluray burners to hit the market

Ok. I'm using HDVSplit and its amazing and free. It splits the scenes and has time stamps on the file that it creates. I love it.

Trouble is it creates mpeg in transport streams. I am using ULead Video Studio 11 which isn't compatible. Any software to recommend that will allow me to convert this to PS?
