need advices from pros... Intend to buy mid range video cam...

Would like to know whether Commex exhibition sells mid range HD cams like Canon's XH G1 & Sony's A1? is it advisable to get it at such shows? or are the prices better at shops?

kindly advice. :)

THanks!

the answer is simple.. call all the shops you know of and ask for the best price inclusive of GST + any freebies. Wait for show and see what they offer. After that, decide who gives the better deal. Saves a lot of trips thats way.

is there a thread containing a list of shops with their contact no.?

sorry new to this video forum..

Hi,
usually at these kind of show price may not necessarily be cheaper but they do give more like extra cards, camera bags, batteries etc. If you are looking for just the camera without these freebies, may go to those shops to check pricing since they are pretty popular.

If you are looking at Canon , Sony etc, check their local website. Usually there is some list price or even the COMEX promo package displayed. That'll help you decide. Hope you get what you want!

You list out the 2 product is on Mid High End cam. The XH G1 is a Pro Cam, may not have at the show. Check with the salesman. :)

Canon brochure is out..check at Kopitiam. the freebies is not worth paying the SRP imo for the higher end models.

cruel, the cam u r looking for is prosumer/professional. The consumer shops will not have what u need. Try the shops below but be very careful with the pricing. Some units are not local sets. The last two I have experience with. Price range this mth is about $5.6k region for A1. Forget about G1 unless u need genlock for multi cam sync.

- Haichew (Sim Lim Squ or Twr)
- Videopro (Sim Lim ground Flr)
- Expandore (Sims Drive) Reliable
- LSV (Sims Drive) Reliabale

I bought my Canon XH-A1 from Expandore at one of the IT shows, it was at Expo in Nov 2006. Haven't noticed them at other shows since then though. Usually you don't see higher end cams at these shows. It's a pity, also would be great to see lighting equipment and other serious video/photography gear.

Hi!..sorry to O.T. abit..

i'm deciding to get the HV30 at COMEX...but wondering if it's a good buy with all the freebies?
is the price of $250 difference from the dealer like AP worth?

Or should i wait till the price drop...if it do drop?
really need some advice...my hand is gettin very icthy already...:D
thanks in advance!

Most likely the "freebies" are worth very little, for example the tripods they usually give away are sized for a small child to use and are very shaky. If you can buy elsewhere with real dollar savings you will be able to get more useful stuff like tapes or extra batteries.

if you can, try ordering from overseas like Japan and US where Canon is much much much cheaper if ignore freebies but any problems have to ship back to them.

If insist on local then start calling up the shops to see if they can give any better promo compared to Comex thru cash payment and extended warranty. Kinda disappointing promos but kinda expected as Canon and the other camera brands will only showhand during Sitex from my experience. The previous show promo was even more bad.

Thanks for the replies bros..:)

Well..i did called a few local shops and their price ranges from $1750-1800 with "shaky" tripod, cheapo bag and tapes..
i would prefer to get it locally just to get away from the hassle if there's any problem with the camera..:embrass:

COMEX is selling at $1999 but the freebies looks tempting....2 extra batteries(total 3 batts included inbox), 160 external HD and 2gb mini sd...and off course the same shaky tripod, cheapo bag and tapes..:D

Anyway thanks again... Flashbulb and jaegersing for your kind advice!;)

Hi guys,

I just got a canon FS10 from Comex today.
Got a few upgrades in the freebies... think there is too many different type of freebies package, and everyone is confuse...

Actually the HF10 is super tempting... but my CPU power is not good enough for AVCHD... think will upgrade in future when editing software gets cheaper and better.

BTW, the offer I get for the FS10 includes a SDHC card reader (cheapo type), Unis 160GB portable HDD (No SD/CF card slot USB link only), 1 x 8GB kingston SDHC card (suppose to be 4GB, but when I claim from the freebies counter at 1st floor, they gave me a 8GB one), 1 x 4GB Toshiba SDHC card (use UOB credit card for payment, only apply to FS10), Canon tripod (same as those $40 bought from Carrefour), 1 x extra battery (original canon type), 1 x camera bag (should call pouch, very small fit 1 x camcorder only), lastly 1 x display calibrator (given foc to some HD camcorder, I got it because the salesman try to smoke me, and I smoke him back... kekeke...)

Thats all... And if you buy more than $800 using UOB card, go to the 4th storey UOB booth for a lucky dip....

I am thinking of purchasing one EX1. Looks gd. just that CMOS has some probs.

welcome to the club mediashock. There r 5 of us here with the EX1... get the EX3, its much easier to handle.

CMOS issue? if u do not shoot fashion shows or weddings it will be fine.

ic. so far how's your experience?

I'll go for the XH-A1 or HPX-170

Eh Who uses HV30 here? (I might buy one from comex. whats HV30's competitor? )

It depends.....currently the Sony CX12 is a very strong contender.

I got the HF100 and it worked remarkably well just that Canon should have been able to fit a whole lot more battery power into a battery the size of the BP-09. Other then that, its a breeze. HV30 main advantage would be that its much better in taking darker then dark scenes.

Thanks alot flash.. I think I wanna stick with HDV for now... hmm..
