thanks for the advice tomohitogo, but I don't want Apple hardware (sorry Apple fan boys). For the same specs, a generic or even high end PC like Asus or Sager is $1000 cheaper. Perhaps running Hackintosh (Snow Leopard on PC) might be the way.

You should be able to shoot tethered successfully with a Macbook Pro, I do it quite often with my H3D 31. Keep your cables short and maybe look at using an unpowered in-line repeater. The H system is pretty smart with power management so that shouldn't be the issue.

Hello pchong , PC makers cater to a wide variety of users.
Macs excel for the kind of work photographers need .
From Better more ex Graphics cards and Rams to little things like Firewire and bluetooth .
One would have to pay alot more for add ons to get an almost similar result .
I think it would be like buying from the internet , something that is from far away and from people we dont know .
It could be the almost the same item but is it ever the same ?
If good money is concerned , then I would rather be able to feel it first and , be able to get back to the seller for redress if problems arise .

Thanks Nick! I was browsing your website and best practice post referring to mounting a hub on a tripod. Is this a powered hub or an unpowered repeater? Where would you recommend that I shop for an unpowered in-line repeater (Granite Digital does not seem to have one).

Thanks for the quote. H3DII 50 seems to be a good deal but it is the previous generation compared to H4D. Wonder if the improvements are significant?

The H4Ds improvement is in the camera body area where anew CPu processes everything resulting in noticeably faster Autofocus that works even in low light areas .
Its great , though those shooting tethered may not need the improvement .
Those with H3DII 31 ,39 will already swear by them - the H3DII 50 is tops !
At the offered price it is a steal now .

Also , ( just found out ) , pay $5k and upgrade any H3DII 50 to a H4D body ! will get calibration to new body and get to keep the old H3DII as spare for another $2.5k .

i am not sure what's the local price but usa is offering the H3DII 31 with 80mm lens for US11,995 (about $16k). I thought this is quite a good price. If local agent is offering such price, maybe I should change my system now. :think:

Friend just got her H3DII 31 w HC 80mm for $18k nett locally . Paid with Visa as well .
She checked and if purchased from the states the Bank , Shipping and 7% gst would come to that.
