Hasselblad extension tubes

Hi all,

I have been doing some research on extension tubes for Hasselblad lens.

Just want to hear from fellow owners their own experiences with these tubes. Namely, are they decent substitutes for the famed 120mm makro plannar? Also, what are some things to take note of when it comes to their tubes?

Nothing substitutes a makro 120mm;p The extension tubes work fine and do check out the variable extension tube. Like many extension tube in one;)

tubes are cool, but you have to know your lenses quite well to get the right length. i really like my tubes on my 150mm.

which tube are you using?

The tubes on the H system is EXCELLENT. I have used them with the "normal" HC2.8/80mm and they give good results. Though I also have the 120 Macro, and there is nothing like the specialized macro lens - detail, resolution, texture, micro-tonal abilities are outstanding. I also use the extension tubes with the macro for extreme macros...in my combination of H26 + H52 + HC4/120 Macro, I can get 1.93X magnification.

So the tubes are highly recommended. Go for them if you need to save some money till you can get the macro lens, and then they rock some more.

Thanks! I might just plunge on the Makro instead. But that will be in March. Major hole in my wallet already...

Hi guys,

I was searching for something on extension tubes and found this thread. Sorry for hijacking.

I am new to medium format and have been using my 500CM + 80mm C lens mostly during my free time. I recently purchased a hasselblad extension tube 16 with the intention of being able to get closer to my subjects.

Any recommendations on whether the 80mm + extension tube 16 is suitable for portraits? If it isn't which extension tube should I be going for with the 80mm lens if I want to shoot portraits? And with the 80mm + 16 tube, what are suitable subjects to shoot?

Would appreciate any feedback on this.

Regards,

Azmir

Amir, 80mm + Tube is not the answer for portraits. You want the teleconverter.

The extension tube will allow you to get closer to the subject for macros or near macros...need to consult the tables to find out what magnification you can get with 80+16 tube. You will probably also lose ability to focus at infinity with the tubes, which is ok for macro work. Not ok for portraits.

I am not familiar with the V system, but for the H system, the 1.7TC is quite a nice piece of glass.

Thank you for the feedback Peter, really appreciate it. Any idea how much damange a piece of glass like the 1.7 teleconverter will cost me?

I dont know if they made TCs for V mounts....

hehe,

I have the 120mm Makro Plannar + the Variable Extension Tube...
Really enjoyed using them but having an accute matte screen helps focusing by a mile..
Most of the flower macros are shot with it.

Here's what I think as I had the 120 before the tubes.

If you're doing extensive macro / close ups there isn't significantly enough magnification at its not a 1:1 lens. So using the tubes helps this but I compensate roughly 1 stop to 2 stop (min and Max extension)

You can use the 80mm with Tubes too, I don't really see any noticeable differences when my friend posted his pictures, however we didn't do any apple to apple comparisons.

My macro pictures on provia and velvia uses the 120 + tubes and even a Raynox Diopter together.

I'll post some pix later when I get back from work

Anyone can post pictures of 80mm with 21mm tube too?? thanks :)

very nice, neoro...love the tones, especially.

very nice. like the way you composed them.

The first picture is so beautiful!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

Just wanna share some shot using the 80mm + 20mm ext tube + Raynox 250
