Hard disk for Final Cut Studio HD editing

I am using a Macbook Pro, 2.4Ghz, 4GB Ram (yes I know it'll be slow).

But my concern is storage. I am using the Canon 5DMkII for video, and it's eating up storage like mad. I have 500GB free on a firewire hard disk, but firewire cannot take HD transfers (too slow).

Anyone has any idea how I can connect an external hard disk to the MacBook Pro? I have an ExpressCard slot. Read this, but am confused: http://support.apple.com/kb/ht2323

Please help!

Ok figured out on http://cinema5d.com/ that I should be converting the raw HD files in FCP to Apple Prores 422 (LT) using the Canon FCP plugin before editing, so that the file gets compressed to the appropriate bitrate.

when you start to deal with HD video with less compression than native H264, you'll probably need Terabytes instead of gigabytes of disk space.

500gb will not be sufficient enough for your use, and if you're running single disks, by the time your disk is 50% full, your performance will drop more than 50%, meaning that you'll start to encounter dropped frames on playback.

Visit Sonnet Technology web site and look under ExpressCard/34 for Tempo SATA cards and related storage solutions. There is a local dealer in Singapore which you can locate within the web site.

Sonnet provides very reliable solution for editing system...but if you're not going anything above ProRES422 for editing, FW800 interface for your drives should be good enough.

In my mobile setups, I've even used Gigabit LAN for live capture & editing without any problems.
