Handheld Lightmeter

Hey guys,

Was wondering which are the recommended lightmeters today? There's just too many (spot meter, etc.) for me to keep up with, and hence would like some recommendations for a good handheld lightmeter.

Regards,
Fred

you can try the analog Sekonic 208 twinmate...only does reflective metering...

OR if your budget allows..the Sekonic 308s, which is digital, and does both incident and reflective metering.

IIRC, 208 should be able to do both incident and reflective metering.

woops, my bad. Yes the 208 does incident metering as well. i stand corrected.

Hmm, are those Gossen ones any good?

Gossen LUNA-PRO F Flashmeter LIGHTMETER 9vbatt powered, very good:thumbsup: but abit bulky

308s get my vote, its easy to use and you can easily read at nite (with LED backlight)

i sold it after i had acquired my VC lightmeter II :)

Are you sure 308s has LED backlight? where? i wanna know, i cant find it for the life of me.

app store has a lightmeter app for 2.99 for your iphone. or u can just use your eyes to estimate exposure.

I think the TS here specifically asked about "Handheld Lightmeters". I tried the lightmeter app, works fine in a pinch, but too fiddly for me and sometimes it doesn't work if your phone memory is full:S

Appreciate the suggestions! I'm now deciding between a Gossen Digipro/Digisix and the Sekonic 308S. Both would be adequate for general usage right?

yes, the blue back light helps to see in dark, see this pix below when the blue light is on

the older version 308e do not have light

i don't remember the 308s having backlight tho.. how do you switch it on?

I have done an extensive search in the Sekonic 308s user manual, there is no mention of ANY backlight.

I have the 308S in my hand now.... however I press, there is no backlight :D

Maybe only on the limited 100 year commemorative edition? ;)

I think 308S is a little big. The battery compartment can be easily yanked open. But other than that, it works quite well for me. How I wish it does "aperture priority" though.

Haha, yeah, maybe a special edition comissioned and made for the Sultan of Brunei. lol.

sorry, my mistake, ya no display back light for 308s but 358 onward, owned most of model tog it have too...

The ultimate is Sekonic L-558 for me ;)
The spot is so precise, you can do zone system easily. Incidental, reflected? No problem.

Also 2 memories for users with 2 cameras. and so many more features. Can also double up as studio meter.

But the most reasonable and smallest for me will be my trusty 208. Thats my solution.

The only thing I don't like about 208 is that iso dial can be accidentally changed when i put it in jean's pocket.
