assuming i earn 1k a month n u 10k.
i spend all, u spend 5k.
i pay 7% of my income n u 3.5%.

i never believe that the more u earn, the more u pay,
but paying more when u earn less? :dunno:

There is never a tax system that makes everybody happy.

How to distribue wealth equally? How to make ppl pay less tax and at the same time keep a nation going.

How to be fair? It is fair to tax the rich more or is there a tax system that tax everybody equally?

Any suggestion?

in the end businesses survive or not depends on demand. if demand is so low, how much can gahmen help. become their customers? :sweat: den it becomes more of protectionist approach liao.

I assume that you are referring to the above.

bengkiat is focusing on income tax but here we are looking at GST.

In that example, I agreed with bengkiat as far as income tax is concern. However, the trouble with ppl is that when the earn more they tend to spend more thus paying more in GST.

Tax is dynamic. What you have today may not be applicable tomorrow and GST is one of the subsets of the total Tax system.

I remember one company who reward its Tax controller with a Porsche. U can imagine how much he saved for the company by just advising the company in paying tax.

Just got to remember, a nation needs tax to run. It will be good if everyone contributes equally and fairly to the running of a nation. But till today, none exist.

a nation needs sufficient tax to run optimally, a person needs sufficient income to live decently.

the rich have a larger buffer cut back on their more expensive lifestyle choices, the poor has much less leeway to even trim.

I am not an economist.

I also agreed with you. Who does not want to be rich. But it never happen. Life is not all about money, others also contribute to the spice of life.

Clearly from many divorce cases, ppl are asking for sky high maintenance fee. These are something you cannot imagine.

As said earlier, a pen is a pen. It can cost from a about a dollor to few thousand dollars but it still does the same job. Is a one-dollar pen Ok for the rich?

err... i think u mis-understood a point.:sweat: the point being, how GST 'eats' into a person's disposeable income. the rise in GST is likened to inflation of sorts.

rich folks can opt for cheaper item, but even the cheapest item now costs more for poor folks with GST included.

Yes you are right. There will never be a tax sytem that make everybody pay equally. Rich can choose to have the $10 haircut and the so calll poor can cut his hair at the up market saloon. It is your choice. However one cannot deny that the rich tend to spend more. So they pay more.

GST sure eats into everybody disposeable income so do income tax. but can we avoid paying tax. How can we get the rich to pay more and the poor to pay less? I dont know!
