i wonder if higher gst for luxury goods and services and lower gst for daily necessities would work?
On the topic of GST, the government is encouraging businesses to register for GST voluntarily.
The government is giving out up to $5,000 for each registration for the purchase of Accounting Software and Computer Hardware.
So it looks like more GST to pay for.

I think a very fair request.what i like gst to be like is it tax the wants and not tax the needs
food/lodging/education - not taxed
cars/hobbies/luxury - taxed
It's simple. If gahmen want to tax GST, then I will spend my money in other countries that charge less or no taxes.
Simple logic

food/lodging/education - not taxed
cars/hobbies/luxury - taxed
I think a very fair request.

ok, can maybe qualify it further, basic necsesity staples.. rice/cooking oil/milk/ etc.. you get the idea... right?Food : lobster, liquor ..no GST? The different between high grade rice and normal rice is about $5/kg. The rich is allowed to buy the rice without GST? Is this fair?
Lodging : landed property= no GST? 3-rooms HDB flat are being purchased by rich claiming to be poor but driving Merc and sometimes having more than one car. Is this fair?
Education: Almost free from Primary to JCs....and who pay for the maintenance of the schools e.g. buildings, teachers, lecturers, support staff.. more than 350 Pri, sec and JCs not counting the Universities.
Do you know that students at private primary and secondary schools pay $2000/mth as school fees. Students from Govt and Govt aided schools only pay a nominal sum..go and find out yourself.
Are those fair?
Waiting for your reply on this... or you still expect people's time to be FOC?Helping means FOC.. paying=trading?

Why not? tax on the Luxury items, like your wine what have you.So poor and rich enjoy the same benefit?
Is it fair?
Time is never free, even those charities...Pse correct me if I am wrong.
I think it is a question of defining 'helping'.
To me 'Helping' = FOC.
To you 'Helping' = $$$$.
Time=FOC if you sincerely want to 'help'.
