Groupon Deals Photographers

The results seem good with 200 over purchases. But I figure alot of people are looking at the words instead of the photo. Not sure if any of you spotted anything strange about them.

You mean the crap job of PS's the girl on the right's head ... she's missing a neck and the head has been pasted on from another shot. :bsmilie:

I think he forgot about the 50% he has to pay Groupon. Anyway he'll probably sell prints later so money might still come from there.

263 bought his groupon.. not bad.. he earned $1578 (after Groupon's share) to pay for the studio and printing. Hope he doesnt lose money at the end of the day.

hmm it seems that the firm is using groupon as a marketing platform. at very best, at this price they are charging, they barely can cover cost after 50% to groupon. perhaps if they make a loss here they would just factor that as a marketing or advertising cost??

That 'marketing/advertising' cost not just money, but also their sweat, and most importantly their time, and all these to be branded as a groupon deal cheap photographer at the end of the day - don't really understand the rational behind.

Maybe they know something I don't - like what Hart said.

Shrugs.

one possible reason for offering such deal is they don't have marketing plan, conventional advertisement not able to give them satisfactory results, source of customers is erratic.

and once the groupon deal is kick off, they don't have to worry much about where to find customers for next 6-9 months,

but if the fundamental issue is still not settle, and the groupon customers are not coming back for their regular price, I guess they have no choice to sign up another round of groupon deal again.

from the paper we do not know how can they make profits from such deals, the figure simply does not add up,
maybe they try to up-sale, maybe they know something that we do not know,

the best way to find out is to buy a deal from them and find out yourself.

now, even pre weddings shoot have joined groupons.

sad. so competitive now. :(

Look on the positive side, if they are not able to turn the corner there will soon be another studio/photographer going out of business, good lesson for others to study how NOT to run a business :bsmilie:

While the groupon studios are busy fulfilling zero or even negative earnings, plus the tons of client care/dare thereafter, studios who don't do this are busy picking up what the groupon studios missed.

Anyway, I just got a call from Groupon again to ask me to offer the $18 deal...

I just ask the lady over the phone how to profit from it as this is a business activity... after much talking, she obviously don't understand the numbers and how to even make any profit out of doing $18 groupon deals for photographer...

No matter how I calculate, for the amount of money you are getting for offering the deals are not even worth the time.

Say if you are really good in managing and sales and you can make a neat $100 profit from each shoot and if you have 400 clients who will pay this, you make $40k in the next 6 month... but well, if you are looking to make $80k-$100k and had to find a new business venture after a year or two, may not a bad idea if you don't mind the reputation. But if you want to build the business long term, I just don't see how it works. I would rather spend 10 years building up reputation which I can make $80k-$100k a month. But of course, everyone has different point of view.

So hard to built up a brand of perceived value, so easy to tear it down.

I have 56 students whom I charged $200 each for an actual studio shoot lesson. So I signed up for the groupon deal in order to have guinea pigs for my students and for me to earn some extra dollars. And yes I used the school premises for the studio, everything paid for not by me. Every 3 months I will have another group of 50 - 60 students. As for the print the student should produce 3 sets of print. 1 for their portfolio, 2 for me, of which 1 will be for the client.

Looks like easy money for you... So how long do you think this will last?

I know lar... but I am asking how long will these 56 photographers last? and also, how long do you think these paying guinea pig keep coming? As I mentioned, you can make money from it, but it won't be forever... I love to see someone proof me wrong on this.

One thing for sure is that, photography is a lifestyle job, I would prefer not to kill my passion because of money.... I reckon, you never pay too much for money....

err, every three months will have a new batch of photographers?

anyway, there is a photography company running the groupon deals for second or third rounds already, so I guest either the groupon deal is working for them or they get stuck with it, we will never know.

I have experienced being one of the photographer in our deal with "Groupon" together with my so-called partner who arranged all the paper works and scheduling with the groupon coupon buyers. We have closed the deal with more than 600 coupons and spread the schedule within 6 months before the expiry date.It turn out that not all of the coupons were claimed so the schedule is not that tight. We are just new to photography business and starting to source out future clients so for us it is not a bad deal.We are not after money after all since we are having our full time job separately. What I gained is experienced doing actual photoshoot instead of doing TFCD.We have earned money at the end of the day of at least minimum $100 each and having some good clients in the future. It's how you handle your marketing strategy I think.Thanks.

Is the $100 per client, per hour, per day, or the whole 6 months?

I don't mean to sound condescending or mean, but I don't think you profited in a business sense. Especially considered the time spent. The only thing you gain is experience of shooting clients looking for cheap deals, some may translate to good clients willing to pay good prices later, but many will not. For those that will, would they be willing to pay higher prices for what they originally deemed as 'cheap photography deals' or will they be distracted by other offerings around.

In comparison a photo assistant earns $100 a day all meals and transport paid for, gets free lesson (if he observe well) in off camera flash, posing and client interaction.

Wedding assistants still pockets angbaos
