Sure, if I am ever going to photograph strangers at close range.
But even if the law is on the side of the photographer, it's a tricky situation to be in.

lol, some people actually delibrately turn their cameras to some people and shoot, regardless of whether the person is good-looking or watever. Some even retain the photos for laughs with their frens.
best way, is to carry ur camera arnd with u in ur hands.. so nobody dares to mess with u loh.. if you are really unlucky, you are caught in the photo, but along with other people, then too bad for u.. coz u cannot say the person is delibrately taking ur photo.. so best is, if u suspect the fellow is taking ur photo, walk up to the person, snap a few shots, post it up for us to see.. then we can either, whack/take his photo/take his camera and throw it away/report to police.. when we see him..
coz if u take photos inside a mrt train, and instead of taking inanimate objects like hand rails or grab poles, you take a photo of someone else, whether head only, half body or full body.. u are asking for trouble..

well, Yoricko, unless u got a better idea.. why dont u share with us?
coz personally, if i suspect the fellow is taking my photo, delibrately taking, and i ask to see the the photo and he doesnt and acts suspicious, i will just break his fingers..

Seriously...
YOU GOT NOTHING on the person. And if YOU do touch the person, then you will be guilty of using criminal force. You don't want to be taken in a picture, then keep a mask on or stay at home.

What you can do is to tell the person that you don't like to be photographed and ask him/her to kindly look for another subject.
I can tell you, most of them would just oblige and move off. If you do happen on a nutcase, then good luck... better keep clear anyway.... :bsmilie:

well, have u seen the way some people behave, when they see a camera pointed towards their direction? even if the photographer didnt take the person's photo, he/she will still be shouted at, or even push/shoved.
at least, i will be doing the right thing first, asking to see the photo, if he didnt take, then who cares? but if he did, and doesnt want to show, proves he hiding something.. coz if i happen to point the camera at someone, the person who thinks his photo got taken, can actually ask me to show the person his or her photo, which i wil do, to show i didnt take..
besides, what if the person who took ur photos doesnt just take one, and keep snapping away, and even if u tell the person to stop taking ur photo and the person doesnt.. what would u do?

2) do u walk the talk
3) should be interesting if i am the photog who shot u in the street and refuse to show u or delete the photo,
4) many had tried, with shouting or threaten to use force, non had succeeded.
5) many had asked nicely, and most of the time, i comply.
remember, there had been many discussion here in cs, only police has the authority to demand people to produce ID or open bag search, or those security in the airport, mrt....(not sure about those during concert, but they have the authority to send u outside though).
havent u been taught? when law and reasons and force (u may think u have it) is not on ur side, courtesy normally does the job.

I do believe there are alot out there on the street who are equally or even better educated/trained in combat :think: This is something i hear from a friend who takes part in martial art exhibitions.
You should never put violence to be a part of the equation. After all, be it legal or not, we are still not at the stage where people are comfortable being photographed for no reason evident to them. If we are requested to delete, as part of courtesy we should. If someone were to provide me a strong enough reason, i would remove my entire roll of film as well, even if it's a damned $12.90 Provia 400x with good shots filled to the final frame.

hmm...i wonder y taking a picture of others would spark a fire. unless they are caught doing some actions thats embarrassing? i guess if there were more than 2 or 3 ppl in the picture, they cant argue that we're aiming them?

It's more of a social issue... Asians are normally ultra-defensive and quick to jump at these issues...
Not true, they have no right to ask you to delete. The image is your intellectual property. You can confirm with any photojournalist.

good good, thats the point of idea when i asked this sort of question, it is to gather more types of reactions what photographers will make when confronted with this sort of situation.
coz what i want to find out is, what would you guys do if u meet a photographer who delibrately takes your photos and when u asked them to delete and they dont, what do you do? coz i havent met such a person yet.. so the purpose of my posting is mainly to find out what do u guys do actually.. :think:
to santhea, ya, i do take some of these photos, but what i am trying to mean is, in another point of view, what happens if someone takes ur photos, and you ask the photog to delete it, and the photog dont.. thats the kind of question i'm trying to ask..
to denniskee, i am not sure whether u read the previous posts of mine and just jump straight to conclusion, but what i do is, i always ask the photographer nicely and politely to delete the photos if he did take my pics even if i am a bit of a bad mood that day.
anyway, i hope those who read my posts, read them thoroughly, please try to understand first, what i'm trying to say or ask before replying.
coz ultimately, the question here is, (coz i believe many of you might have met some people who scold u even when u are not taking their photos), how do you deal with them, even if they threaten to harm you.. coz i have seen photographers who were threatened with body contact when the question is that the photographers didnt even take their photos in the first place, and that even thought the photog show the "victim" the photos they took, and none of the photos, i believed, contains the "victims" images.. and yet they threatend to do the sort of body contact i have mentioned..
and in case u just see the middle part only, this is the question i'm asking about,
so, how do each and everyone of you react to this sort of situation? :think:coz different photographers have different types of ways to react to this sort of situation.
anyway, be happy and relax when replying!

like i always say, you can have the law, and the law dictates that photographers have every right to take photos in public places.
but there is also the issue of people who do not care about the law, it could be a moment of impulse, it could be that they are having a bad day. the key point is that you handle it nicely and don't end up being confrontational.
i think most photographers here who dabble in street will not mind having their own picture taken actually, since they know what and why the picture is taken. of course, this applies only to a certain extent.
why you are getting heated replies is really because of your tendency to make generalising, sweeping statements with not much to back it up.

they ask to delete then delete lah, I hope you carry many memory card and replace with anther one, when reach home, you know what to do hor... do can undo.
dun understand...u mean can retrieve e deleted image??
