got scolded when doing street shot?

i shoot without looking through the viewfinder.

he said " learn how to see through your camera"
My camera is my eye when i take streets.
The advantage is, people around you would be very oblivious.
just hang ur camera along your neck or hold ur camera at waistline or any comfortable place and shoot lah.
heh.

wah that guy is cool lah. which lens is recommended for this kind of no look shots?
i've been thinking wide angle got a better chance of capturing the subject, but it'll look small. tele will be hard to aim...

Most likely a prime lens would be best for this kinda photography. Fast simple and lightweight. Sounds good eh?

Does anyone feel that foreigners like caucasians photographers do have less "scolding treats" than the local street photographers?? Seems to see quite alot of them at Orchard and Chinatown where people treat them as norm I have witnessed a poor local street photographer kena "scolding up down left right" in Chinatown.

Yeah.. best to use telelens. Shoot fast and move on. Don't take your time slowly aim and shoot.

if he is shooting a scene where many pple r a round, fine.
but if he is shooting me esp,
unless we r living in a police state n he is from the Gestapo,
it'd relfect better on him n his upbringing if he had asked for consent.

Apologize and move on, SLOWLY. Do not RUN. Block and dodge if he throw some attacks, if he continues, do whatever for self-defense.

Out of like 5000+ shots, I've only got scolded once.
Telephoto isn't for me, 50mm = win.

P.S. : That uncle really made my day feel so sore :/

So far I haven get scolded yet. Do it very discreetly. But hopefully I wun get scolded on my upcoming trip to langkawi and taiwan.

But if I was caught, I would apologise and run as fast as possible. haha..

Instead of being confronted by the subject for taking their photographs without his/her permission, we, as photographers can also argue that the subject just happen to be inside our line of sight. We can actually blame them for blocking our view when shooting a scene!

Anyways, I act like a tourist. Haven't failed me, YET. Then again, I don't really do street shots.

Question: Which kinda street shots is more likely to have someone come up to you offended? Discreet in your face portraits like the ones taken in Geyland Serai that someone posted earlier, or overall photos of crowds with your camera raised above your head?

Photos like this where a number of people know that they end up occupying some space in someone's photos.

Yea. But many guys = many times the chance? hahaha. If one guy doesn't get offended, the other guy might. The non-photographers can't tell a wide from a tele. Hard to predict what they are thinking.
